EVGA X99 FTW Motherboard and Crucial  Ballistix Sport  16GB (4 x 4GB)  288-Pin DDR4... would be a good start for something great.

I'm waiting for x99 to come out in order to build my next computer for a long time.

Love the styling of the X99's, black /red definitely isn't out of fashion and the right-angle connectors are a bonus for a clean and tidy system

Looks like a solid choice for the new X99 platform :)
 
Personally I prefer a second Gigabit LAN over built-in WiFi that some of the competition is offering - especially useful for when I eventually move the board to my home server for a second life in a few years. I mean, come on, if I'm gonna build a desktop PC with up to 10 disks, I'm obviously not interested in mobility. We can handle laying a little cable to my rig to get actual network speed as well as processing power.

A new platform should be interesting for sure!
I am a bit curious though, how does EVGA mother boards compare to, say Asus in terms of build and part quality?

Last Asus card I bought had problems with the internal sound system as well as bluetooth functionality failing after a few months...

Man, I feel like the micro is getting no love. SLI on a micro, a tiny case that supports liquid cooling. Awesome, powerful little space saver!

The X99 platform seems to be a great upgrade for my current X79 board! I really like the design and specs of the new boards.

Love the price of the FTW model.  Dual Intel NICs is also a big plus.  (Hate the gamer systems that use the Killer NICs.)  However, the lack of an M.2 slot on the FTW model is a bit of a let down.  The next big thing in storage is going to be M.2 NVMe drives.

This would be a major improvement over my current Asus mobo. Still works great as a machine, but doesn't have all those nifty  bells and whistles I want (Thunderbolt/ RAID SSDs, anyone?)
