8400gs and Win 10 (64bit) Support

My PC is constantly freezing; meaning the screen and mouse freeze and nothing further happens (picture at freeze remains on the display). Card works perfectly fine installed in a Win 7 machine. Tried latest drivers from EVGA and Nvidia (342.01) without any resolution. I can play dated video games, but as soon as I launch Firefox or Microsoft Edge the computer freezes within seconds.
 
Obviously this card is dated, but it was my impression the combination of the 8400gs, availability of Win 10 (64 bit) drivers for this video card and store availability of the card the combination is still supported. Are my impressions in err? Research shows I am not the first person with this problem, but I have not stumbled upon a solution.

    What Version of Windows 10 are you running like 1709, 1803 or 1809
    I would give this Driver a Go GeForce 341.92 Driver 
     
    Run GPU-Z and see if you have the below issue with OpenCL

    No luck with 341.92, exact same problem. Weird thing is the card works fine at desktop, steam (low-demand game) and word processing, but as soon as I launch Firefox or MS' new Edge browser the game locks. I ran the render est in GPUZ and it failed shortly into that test as well. Temp during a game only reached 54c with the ArticSilver5 thermal compound.
     
    Hate to fight a lost cause, so I ordered a RX-470 today. Just no luck with Geforce unfortunately. Sure wish retailers would stop peddling these cards if they are not supported with the current OS. Oh well....

    If the card works fine in another system then your system has a hardware issue.

    System works fine with HD 6850 video card.
