Finally got a hold of a temporary PSU to power my new PC while my Corsair AX860 is being RMA'ed. Have pretty much gotten everything up and running, except one thing... No matter what i do in the Bios the CPU seems to be stuck at 1.2ghz instead of 3.3ghz it's really noticeable in games as my new PC performs worse than my old PC, and one can see in CPU-Z, WEI and the Bios itself that something isn't quite right. Have set the multiplier to 33x and disabled EIST/Speedstep, but still no go (Bios even shows the multiplier as 12x100). Is there something i'm missing in the Bios settings?

When your PC is in idle the CPU will slow down to the frequency you see. Try running a CPU intensive app and then check the frequency again. On the older motherboards this was called Intel Speedstep and you could easily disable that in the BIOs so the CPU would run at max speed all of the time.

Disable all power saving features and CPU C States to see if it helps.

CPU speed seems to stay at 1.2ghz even in games, or CPU intensive apps, just tested some games and minimized to check CPU-Z if the speed would change, but it didn't, same thing happened in Cinebench (where the CPU scores very low) Edit: Sajin, just tried disabling C-states and all the power saving features i could find, but CPU still only wants to run at 1.2 :S What's really weird is that the Bios shows the CPU as running at 12x100 at the top, despite multiplier being set to 33x

Set the BIOs settings back to default and then recheck in the Windows desktop if everything is fine

Managed to find the solution to this little problem. Turns out there is a very, very evil button on this motherboard... the MCU switch! hehe One of the cables that i tucked behind the motherboard tray must have flicked it while i was doing some cable management earlier. This thread explains what it does for anyone who might have flicked this one accidentally like i did: http://forums.evga.com/Question-about-the-MCU-Turbo-switch-on-the-Classified-X99-m2225505.aspx CPU now runs at a nice 4.2ghz overclock, and might be able to do more :D

Despite all the time that passed I have to proclaim my love for you man (and chesspc too) :). I stuck in the same boat. Changed BIOSes, cleared CMOS even if a week ago everything was OK. And recently during creation of the WC loop I had to, without knowing, hit that pesky little switch. Thanks man! Everything back to normal.
