PanzerMensch Hey thanks for the link IstBarP!! I just added another 360 rad to my loop and bleeding her atm. Waiting on some more cables from Corsair so I can fire up these fans. Might be a while before I get to do any OC'ing, but I am anxious!! You are so very welcome! ... just start low on the voltage though.. like 1.4ish, and then move up slowly until it fires up :) and then bench your way to stability :)..

Edit: Couldn't get much higher even with hyperthreading off without it getting uncomfortably warm..going to reapply TIM and reseat and try later. Also, enlarged first picture.

Hi and Welcome to the 5+ ghz club! :) this is the place to post pics of ur 5 ghz clocks! please note there will be updates in here! :).. and to those of u who are jealous " " take your time and look peoples Rigs (give a +1 and comment) and clock speeds!! We lack members!.. get that cpu overclocked!! u will need the following in ur Screenshot if u want to be member!! 1. something like this! (to verify it is YOUR clock speeds!) 2. CPU-Z this will verify your speeds! :).. 3. your computer running Linx! minimum 20000 package size atleast 10 runs without error! :) (if u choose 29000 u can do 5 runs! :)) both should result in about 15 min of linx, just to show that u are some kind of stable and not just bootable! :) 4. Report batch, Cooling and voltages in your posts so that i don't have to pm 1000 people who just posts a pic! Thank u a lot! :).. looks awesome dude!! :)

I wanna joinnnnnnn I think I need to check out my temp monitoring. I can't get the CPU to max over 75c with the tool that came with the motherboard and real temp shows much higher. I run it at 4.8 though which never lets me max over 66c typically unless benchmarking etc cause nothing taxes the proc enough for me to care otherwise lol

That seems like a lot of vcore for the speed. And yeah, I'm normally running at 4.8 with HT @ 1.375v for a 24/7 OC. Never get worse than around 65c..F@H whenever I'm not gaming...so it sees some good use. I'd just hate to see you nuke your lovely processor for the sake of a number. >.< Edit: If you look at my picture, I used HW Monitor for my temps..I also use Core Temp in conjunction with a Windows gadget for easy desktop monitoring.

Its ok I've been overclocking Intels for 10 years I'm OG on em (hence the coppermine18 reference from the PIII) I've run a bit high on a lot of Intel CPU's VCore without ever frying one to reach its max stable clock. They can take it, it will degrade the life potentially but for me I've used them for up to 3ish years until I'd totally toss that rig. At least mine can, so if other people fry theirs they are doing it wrong. lol Real temp reads far higher than any other temp monitor I use. Even then, I clock down for folding anyways and if I'm gaming or etc I never get near even making the CPU warm at any speed. I put that one up as it was just what was an example but I had mine off to the side and the temp @ max spiked 85c. Even folding I don't even hit that temp, only 66-68c and in prime95 75c. So I just need to see what is up with real temp. (HW Monitor is completely different from both of them as well, just looked at it). I'm tempted to go cut and mount one on the cpu directly now

Yeah..just a word of caution if you didn't know. I have somewhere around 4 different temperature programs, plus the temp reading on my motherboard..and it's a crapshoot it seems like.

Yeah, I know - wasn't too happy about that. I'm currently running with an H70. Not planning on pushing it again (or higher) until I can get some water on it. I normally run at 4.5 (1280 VCore) and temp's never max out higher than mid to high 50's - that was on Prime for 12+ hours. The jump in both VCore, but specifically, temps going from 4.9 to 5.0 was ridiculous. The max temp at 4.9 was 81. Hopefully I'll be able to get a water loop on it here in the near future.

Fortunately the tech changes fast. I do not worry about the longevity of the CPU because personally I know I will swap it constantly. Typically I'm either lucky with the batch I get on chips or order ones from particular batches. I picked up my last 2 at Fry's lol. Also, aside the temps and science of things there is always that room for gut feeling if you have it due to the variable quality of all components always. Which is the fun part 5GHz is redic on these anyways which really cracks me up. I just watch the cores and they are damn near idle doing everything. I have the VCore set at 1.46-1.48 but allow it to draw more. I never do unless I'm grinding it on this particular cpu there is nothing game or program wise on my machine that ride it that hard. When I back it off to 4.8 I run it 1.42 and it stays really cool at that temp, I'd call that the spill temp for where my H80 can not keep up with cooling and the liquid temp rises to X amount and sits. Oh well. I have always just bumped the CPU speed from stock VCore until it BSOD's/Locks, bump the VCore move it up and go until the temps get high or the machine starts yelling at me 100-200MHz at a time. Then I methodically (haha) crash it over and over at that max area I feel is safe then slowly slide it down until it is stable. Safest way to do it.

Yeah..that's pretty much the way to do it. I typically do a modest clock to see how my particular chip is @ stock, then ramp it to where I want with a bit more voltage, and if I get it stable, crank it back down. Until I get to a place like the 5+ range..then I increment. Nothing like the thrill of seeing mini mushroom clouds in your PC.

It is the best. I don't know how long you have been at this but with the Northwood Pentium 4 1.6a's were out we were hitting 3.2GHz air cooled on the right chips using a VID mod wrapping a strand of copper around the pins to change the default voltage in the BIOS. That was probably the most epic OC without water or anything. I did though have a 7lb HSF with helicoids and a TMD fan because those were all of the rage. Oh snap, I found a pic of the one I used on google... lulz. The one time I fried something I was being funny and was making fun of something on an only computer and said 'HEY LOOK IT EVEN HOT SWAPS RAM' and shoved in a stick of PC133 and BAM lol. I started dying laughing.

Yeah...I start getting uncomfortably hot after 4.8 @ 1.38v..takes a lot more volts for not as many results. Going to look into changing my radiator fans though...also just went to a 360 instead of a 240 radiator..lowered temps by about 5c. At full load I'm hitting 65 tops and idling at 30 while @ 4.8.

do you think a 240 rad and generally a XSPC RASA RX240 kit would help in keeping the temps under control at such clocks? I will be getting a replacement of H80 in 1-2 days, because the one I have has a faulty fan controller (I use it with fans plugged in straight to PSU). hoping that replacement unit gives me better temps, because this one is not really better than any (cheaper!) HDT air cooler out there ... if H80 doesn't work for me I send it back as totally useless and faulty by design (haha!) and get the RX240 kit instead. My CPU gets thermally throttled briefly (down to 4.4GHz) whenever either of cores hit 98C, so the linx test is sort of failing for me even though the CPU seems stable ... however I need to set a 1.515v vcore at 50x multi (resulting in 4.99GHz on my board).

I basically did an xspc kit with the raystorm block instead of the rasa. I've got that block, an ex360 rad, and the 750 reservoir/pump combo. For a budget cooling setup I couldn't be more pleased. I'm sure I could ride this thing a lot harder but i'm trying to scrape out my folding by months end here.

ultra kaze? like scythe slipstreams? don't bother, it's junk. they die out in 3-6 months (sleeve bearing), also even though they provide very high CFM there is very low static pressure at same time.... maybe invest into some Scythe AP-15 Gentle Typhoons? People around here like them very much, almost silent at 1.850rpm and very nice static pressure at same time too...

Now off to get my 1st goal. and no, this won't be 24/7...4.5-4.7 is my 24/7 clock CORRECTION: that run was at 1.445 Volts, I was retard didn't hit enter when I changed my volts so it kept my last set volts which was 1.445. Doing 5.1 now...still haven't gotten my 1st goal yet >.< 5Mhz didnt do it

Even Corsair H80 failed miserably at 1.515v to 95C (test failed, chip unstable) and at 1.525v shooting the cpu core temps up to 98C (complete fail because it got thermaly throttled after after a few passes). I am building a water loop in a few days and putting this cpu under water. not only because of this thread LOL! but because I want to have 4.6-4.8 daily OC and can't manage that with such hot ambient room temps I have here...
