I was also thinking it might be good to see what happens if you use a fixed refresh of like 60hz. Also is resizable Bar enabled? If it is you might want to see what happens when you disable it.

Keeping us informed if the issue occurs again.

Unfortunately it still does.

Thanks for sharing. Useful indeed. But I tried most of the steps mentioned above. I have Razer Synapse, and Creative Labs App. The issue happens with or without them working in the background.

Are you using Gsync? I have flickering issues with gysnc enabled on my Alienware OLED. It's a desync issue with the gsync module and requires Nvidia to fix.

Try disabling Gsync and see if you still have the flicker.

I read somewhere that it's a G-Sync issue but I remember this issue happened even with G-Sync disabled... I'll give it another shot.

Edit: It's the same with G-Sync Disabled. I tried Fixed refresh rate at 160 hz.

I'll try that. Currently refresh rate is set to 165hz. I tried to lower it down to 144hz with same result. I will keep lowering it and test. And Yes Resizable Bar is enabled. As far as I remember it keeps flickering with or without it. but I will try again just to rule out this possibility.

Did your system ever run these games just fine?  Or is it an issue that just started happening out of the blue?

Did you try reformatting and doing a fresh install of windows + all your apps?
I feel you on the pain of having to tear down a loop to trouble shoot a part.  I'd say if you are still having issues after a fresh install of  windows and all apps, then yea- it might be hardware related.

I did recently have a similar issue with Fortnite, where it would crash during loading into a map (after they did a big Season update).  Switching to DX11 fixed the issue, but I wasn't satisfied running in DX11.  I undid a slight AI overclock to the CPU and haven't had any issues since, and the game works just fine in DX12.   I see that you never had any overclocks on your CPU, but just sharing that I also had some issues.. I feel like there is still work to be done with drivers and DX12, but don't really have any proof, other than seeing other people with similar issues.

Good luck on troublshooting.

Hello. My system always run games just fine. For example I am now playing Starfield and I am close to 80 hours with no issues at all. When I first bought 4090, I was using it with my old Z390 Dark rig before building this Z790 Dark KP build. The issue were seen with the old system as well but as frequent as now. So it is either Driver /software related, or it was an issue with the CPU all along. Anyway As long as I can play games just fine I can live with the flickering issue. Sometimes I just need restart windows for DX12 games to launch. not all of them. but in game, everything runs just fine.

So I will just live with it for now.

What they mean is: did it always flicker since you first owned it?  Or did it start flickering later on or progressively get worse at some point?

If your system always ran games just fine, you wouldn't be here posting asking for help.  Consider that they are asking in the context of the topic at hand.

Hello. It was flickering from the start but very rarely and DX12 games would launch even after the flickering. it just got worse overtime. I am here because I am concerned about the GPU in specific so I was hoping to see if anyone is having the same issue and share a possible reason , fix. However most of the opinions suggests breaking the loop and testing on another PC which is not an option for me right now.

I am hoping this is software related and will fix it self automagically with Windows / Drivers updates.

Thanks.

Edit: Just a question, Is dxdiag a reliable diagnostics tool ? when I run dxdiag, in the GPU tab , it states "no problems found"

Hello Guys. I was doing some benchmarks with Cyberpunk 2077 as Update 2.0 was released today. and I noticed that the memory size of 4090 was not showing 24GB . It was showing only 22 GB as memory size. Also from GPU-Z it's showing only 23552 MB. Is this normal ?!

I hope that's not an indication to a hardware issue

Not normal it should be 24576…

Maybe version 2.55.0 is reading it wrong. Try version 2.50.0.

Just downloaded 2.55.0, and am using driver 537.13, and mine shows 24576 like it should.

From Nvidia Control Panel it's showing 23028 MBGDDR6X of dedicated video memory. Also Cyberpunk benchmark information it shows memory size 22626 MB. I guess this might be an indication of hardware issue and might be related to the flickering...

Could be your issue. I just updated to the 537.42 driver, and 2.55.0 version of gpu-z, and all is well here...

Will a riser cable cause this kind of behavior / issues ? I have it connected with a riser cable.

Risers are known to cause all sorts of issue, so trying without the riser may resolve the issue.

Thanks Sajin. It's exactly 1024 MB gone from the total memory size. I guess this is the a lead to possible hardware issue. looks like I have no other choice but to break the loop.

You could try a different riser cable first.

I contacted Zotac support and they said it's probably a faulty card. They also asked me to return it to the seller for warranty handling. Anyway changing the riser cable is very hard without breaking the loop. I dropped the PC to the workshop where I had the WC loop build. it's the shop where I bought the card from too. I will wait for their feedback. hopefully they will replace it but definitely I will not put the card on water again.

Ah ok, yeah I made sure I had easy access to mine when I built the loop, though I'm switching to hard tubing soon hopefully so who knows how easy it will be after that.  If you're going to avoid putting the replacement on water though just make sure it's gonna have enough airflow.  Mine is on a vertical mount next to the tempered glass on the case (like my profile pic but a 4090 now instead of a 2080) and I'd never run an air cooled card there for airflow reasons.

After taking it to the shop , they somehow fixed it. mentioned something about ECC mode was on blah blah blah. It's now correctly showing 24 GB. Anyway they stress tested it and it seems it is stable now ... Been playing starfield and finished it without any problems. Now I'm playing Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty and so far it's stable and running fine. I hope this will be the end of all my nonsense issues since I built this rig and just start to enjoy it without worrying too much.

Good to hear. So if you go into the nvidia control panel, and select change ecc state under 3d settings it's currently not checked marked? OFF = not checked marked. ON = check marked.

By default ecc should be off, and not on.

it's currently off, that's the default setting. But I do remember it being on at some point ?! Although I was using DDU a lot during my troubleshooting , I guess enabling it is a permanent change  (even if you deleted the drivers?!)  unless you specifically disable it . Not really sure. Basically what they did is reinstall Windows  (Should have done it myself ) Not sure if enabling ECC some how makes the operating system lock 1GB on GPU memory ?!

Anyway it appears to be OK now .

The black screen flicker, if that's the problem you had,  is listed as fixed in the new driver update. I was getting this as well.
