Absolutely best performance deal for TDP 320W
I am still on EVGA 3070, so this is right card for me.

It'll render quicker than my 3090ti and hold me over until 4090 inventory improves.  All the pricing is crazy, just like my hobbies.  I have accepted it.  I wish I could get a C8 Z06, but my name is not Hendrick, Condon, Leno, or any other chosen ones.

I want to compare my OC 3090ti pulling >500w vs 4080 stock.  My office should be a little cooler.

I am very grateful I'm in a place in my life where I can be excessive.  Working two jobs and trying to finish college was challenging.  I hope 2023 inventory is better after the China AI board embargo starts.  Glad AMD is competitive and trying to keep nVidia in check.

I am still on EVGA 3070, so this is right card for me.

No doubt it’s gonna perform great but this isn’t a halo product so it can’t even lay claim to fastest card. I’m not gonna tell you what to do with your money, you earned it you spend it how you see fit. Could easily afford it too but I just can’t justify spending $1200+ on a 80 class card, not when the last generation 80 class card launched at $699.

Unfortunately what has happened during the shortage and mining craze is that it showed NVIDIA and other people are willing to massively overpay for things and they are now taking that to the bank. What’s next? 5080 for $1700? That’s where we’re headed if people keep justifying this. I’m voting with my wallet in the 80 series.

As I was counting down to 6am PST, saw quite a few 3080s and 3090s still up for sale on searching. Newegg lasted 2hrs 16 minutes until sold out. I wonder how much they may keep up the scarcity to try to keep 30 sales alive. Reportedly, 100k 4090s went out and 4080s were to be about 30-40% less in numbers. Now we wait for AMDs answer still a month away. Congratulations if you got yours, I won't see my block until at best, mid December , so Im ok waiting and can use the 3090ti for heat, if I don't see 90s back out by January I might be kicking my own tail for not grabbing one earlier.

I upgraded my monitor to 4k 144Hz HDR monitor and slapped Atmos soundbar as PC speaker, so need a card that support this, but 4090 is kind overkill for me with 450 - 600 or more TDP.
I agree that prices are totally out of control, but manufacturers seeing how much people pay to scalpels simply float with the flow.

After 4080 will jump of the wagon and stop doing any upgrade gaming related.

I guess at this point I'm waiting to see how AMD compares since Nvidia still can't keep cards in stock.  At this point Nvidia is gonna have an 8000 series out before I can get a non-scalped upgraded for my 2080 Super

4080's are still available in several different AIB models at several UK retailers. Nobody is buying these cards

Nvidia will have to reassess their inflated pricing. People know AMD's 7900 XTX has roughly the same performance for £999. Nobody is willing to fork out £1200-1600 for a 4080 when they know its not a flagship card.

It's all to NVIDIA's plan I'm sure. 4080 pricing will be adjusted by January after NVIDIA has milked early buyers and is done clearing out Ampere inventory. You can't even find a 3090 Ti below 1500 or a 3090 at $1k anymore, and 3080 Ti's are no longer found at $900 anymore. Ampere inventory is clearing out and won't be an issue by the time AMD has any stock of the 7900XTX worth mentioning.

Meanwhile, since the 4080 costs 75% of a 4090 but delivers 70-75% more performance, the 4080 is only driving more buyers up into that halo, better margin 4090 product. NVIDIA knew just where to price Ada Lovelace to have the best effect.

That and now after seeing Gamers Nexus new video about the melting power connector issue, it seems it's actually caused by user error connecting the plug and I'm feeling a lot better about holding out for a 4090.  Something designed for 8K gaming is going to do a lot better with high res VR HMD's than a "4K" card like 4080 or 7900XTX

I suspected all along it was user error and said as much many times. People just like drama and will eat it up regardless of how miniscule it actually is or was. They are stating about the same estimate I gave in another thread of about a 0.05% failure rate on these connectors. I agree with GNs summation that it's also a bit of design oversight however. He also goes on to mention how this whole fiasco may be perpetuating more failures as some people may be paranoid now and are unplugging their connectors much more often than they should to see if it's melting and thus actually bringing about more failures as it's then that more debris or an improper connection could cause melting.

As for the RTX 4080, I'm sure it will do fine at 4K gaming and outside of it's insulting price is actually a very good card performance wise. I just can't stomach paying $1200 for a 80 class card. That is just an insult and puts us on a very expensive path for what future generations will hold. We are well on our way to paying $1500-1700 for an 80 class card if people keep justifying this pricing model. Look I get it, it's faster than a RTX 3090 Ti, that's all fine and well. However the RTX 3090 Ti at $2k was also a slap in the face. Now full disclosure I own a RTX 3090 Ti too but I didn't buy it till it hit $1049 a couple months ago, that I felt was a reasonable asking price for what I knew was an end of cycle refresh card.

The RX 7900 XTX is still a bit of a mystery however. AMD isn't being as boisterous as they usually are when they know they have a leg up or can compete. Them also tempering expectations and claiming the 4080 is their performance competitor is also a bit concerning. Last generation they squarely targeted the 3090 and went after it with the same $999 MSRP that they launched the 6900 XT at. In the end they did have a very good card that could actually keep up (at least in rasterized workloads) and they made a lot of noise about that. This time they are barely making a peep. It's concerning for 2 reasons 1) No one will compete with Nvidia to keep them in check on pricing (I shudder to think what they 4090 Ti will debut at) and 2) I'm almost certain the 4080 will be faster than the 7900 XTX in ray traced workloads but if they also fall short in rasterized performance this is going to further embolden Nvidia to keep the prices higher. We are at the point where RT is no longer a gimmick or a fad and needs to be addressed if you want gamers to buy your expensive products to play games with. There are plenty of RT enabled games on the market now and there is no sign of them stopping anytime soon.

Interesting Newegg still has 4080 Gaming OC in stock.  BB sold out in a minute.  Newegg ship cards now while BB is over a week out.  I'm very curious on stock quantities at launch and why scalpers didn't raid Newegg.

Hopefully I can find a Gigabyte/MSI 4090 local stock at MSRP in LV.    Otherwise, coming home to a transitional 4080 until next year.  I will not pay a scalper, just greedy nVidia's MSRP.

Well, if you bought on to Scalp, you better be willing to eat it. If you pay tax plus selling fees it is a long way to break even. No 4080 has a bid over msrp and when Ebay takes 15% off the top...the 3090ti basically killed scalping except for a limited few idiots.

Man 12-1400$ for a x80x card? you have to be crazy to pay that.

I couldn't stay on 3070 for 4K gaming. What I suppose to wait? Also, TDP 320 is much better than TDP 450+.

The fact that these cards are still readily available the day after launch is unheard of for virtually every 80 class card that preceded it. I hope Nvidia get's the message LOUD AND CLEAR. No one WANTS to pay $1200+ for a 80 class card. That should at the very most be for the Ti variant. $1200 for a vanilla 80 class card is just a slap in the face. It's disgusting really, this card should been priced between $ $799 - $849 due to inflation.

Price/performance ratio is equal to 90 class cards, so I just focus on that, rather than name/class.

While I agree that is way overpriced, at least money doesn't go to the scalper leaches.

Now I can pronounce EVGA 3070 as backup card and give to a friend EVGA 2070 (current backup card)

    EDIT:
So long EVGA, it was long and enjoyable journey last 2 decades

It used to be that the price/performance of a new xx80 card was better than the previous xx90 card, not the same.
Additionally, the MSRP of the previous xx90 card was ridiculous, so it's hardly something to try to be on parity with.

It's your money do with it whatever you want. However it went to someone worse....directly to Nvidia validating this ridiculous price they set. You are saying to Nvidia when you buy this "sure I'll over pay for an 80 class card". You're justifying it all wrong, it doesn't matter what it's performance level is. It's not the halo product, it can't lay claim to the fastest card available to justify it's ridiculous mark up. If everything went by that logic we'd be paying $700 for 60 series class cards just because they are faster than the generation that preceded them. This is market stagnation, this is not improvement. Performance is SUPPOSED to go up each generation or what the hell is the point in even making a new generation if they don't.

With this 80 class card Nvidia is attempting to shift the product price range for 80 series cards to north of $1000 USD. They are trying to make that the norm going forward. The 80 class cards while expensive at the $700 mark were still within reach of many people and still offered very high performance. The $500 mark up they got this generation is a STAGGERING 71% increase in price and you just agreed to that.

Agree, but I had to upgrade my current video card after spending $1,500 on 32"gaming monitor and Atmos soundbar.
4080 is cheap solution for me as if I decided to go for 4090 than would build a new rig which would be another $3K.

    EDIT:
    @ Craptacular One
I perfectly understand and AGREE with your view/points but simply have more money than FPS while gaming,
    Was way overdue to upgrade.
