Your questions are ridiculous.

Why are you even in this thread with your condescending BS?  You don't even own one of these card so why do you care?

I am just trying to offer some assistance. I'm not the one arguing that $10 worth of thermal pads is an outrageous expense. Why you need to find me and argue with me is beyond me.

$0 cardboard.

Use tape or cardboard if you want. Neither one will seal very well (one immediately, one over time), and one is a fire risk. Do whatever you want.

All I know is that thermal pads will seal well for the life of the product, and is not a fire risk.

ASRock Z77 • Intel Core i7 3770K • EVGA GTX 1080 • Samsung 850 Pro • Seasonic PRIME 600W Titanium
My EVGA Score: 1546 • Zero Associates Points • I don't shill

Cool man, you go for it.  I'm going to test it with gaffing tape this weekend, if I get a chance, I know that works on a radiator.

So I did get around to trying this with Gaffing Tape without disassembling, around the perimeter of the backplate and PCB up to about the pcie slot, holes behind the fan, and sealing around the power plugs. It was good for about 2C.  Taping up the actual PCB might be good for more especially with pads between the PCB and backplate, with what I did it still has tons of warm air blowing to the backplate and some gets up to mid card where it can escape.

Update. I did some more kapton tape around the front of the card which is where a lot air escapes. This helps a bit, I don't feel air exiting from the front of the card anymore. It now exits from the back.

Covered up pcie pins & fan / led connectors.

I also covered up the unused screw holes on the PCB.

I won't mention temps as I didn't measure before

Well, at least you’re having fun with it, but if you aren’t actively taking temps, what is the point? Weren’t you trying to redirect air in an attempt to lower temps, or did I miss the point of this?
