My best 3080HY was 831mv 1875mhz +1110mem -110w, 98.7% performance 45C GPU - 67 C mem 70C hot spot
My Current is KPE 925mv 1980mhz +1100mem -77w , 101.6% performance 46-54C GPU 65C mem 70C hot spot

Those are some interesting results. Would you mind posting a timespy run result if you get the chance? How much power draw are you seeing on average with those two undervolts?

I will see what results I may have saved for TS, I mostly used Port Royal as the performance score , ran hot right out of gaming sessions. Time Spy has changed a little for me, I lost my CPU oc. when I changed the Motherboard bios for resizable bar. My CPU score was 11100 with i9 9900k and its now 10990 with the same 5.0 GHz.

Hi,
I'm glad to be here

I have this videocard: EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti XC3 ULTRA GAMING, 12G-P5-3955-KR, 12GB GDDR6X, iCX3 Cooling, ARGB LED, Metal Backplate.
It's a 3 air fan video card, it's show up on EVGA site only when you select Europe Location.

I updated everything i can using Standalone Precision X1 software.
I also updated my mother board Bios since it have some update related to the RTX 30 series.
I updated NVIDIA drivers.

Questions:
1 - There is something else i need to update?
2 - I will have the power cap problem people related in other topics?
3 - To get maximum performance, i NEED to mess with overclock?

Thanks!

You don't Need to do anything, cards run just fine at default settings, I prefer to make a more aggressive fan curve to keep temperatures lower.

Warmed up my system last night with some iracing then ran some timespy with and without the undervolt,
Default 19880 g 10989 c 420w
Undervolt 19490 g 10998 c 380w
Fan curve is more aggressive on the UV profile with the floor setting of 40% so the Undervolt also performed 7C cooler.

It's this an XC3 card that you're over 360W on? Or an FTW3?

Ah, this is the XC3 thread. We don't get to see power figures north of 366W.

On a related note, I updated to the new Bios with the fixed power stuff. I rebaselined the system first at a couple different settings and am now testing the updated bios. I threw in a different SSD for this test so I could disable CSM without messing around with my normal OS. This seems to have reduced my scores some amount from where they were before so I'm glad I rebaselined.

Preliminary results on one of the higher OC settings:
Old Bios/New Bios
PR - 13,459 / 13,699
TS(graphics) - 20,102 / 20,419
FS (graphics) - 49,407 / 49,685

10 minutes of Heaven
Average power - 326.9 / 349.9
Peak power - 349.2 / 359.2

Power balance on the plugs isn't much different, both just went up about 10W with the slot up about 5W. Honestly, just looks like they fixed the power slider to me. I wasn't having sub-300W performance though before.

I think the most significant benefit of the new bios is the consistency of power. My power usage ranged between 320-340W during various games but after the update it consistently stays at or around 350W. This also allows my undervolt to stay at 1890W at all times and when it does go down, it boosts 50-60MHz higher.

The power update definitely messed with some of the operating points of my OC settings. Makes sense as a few extra watts is likely pushing it to clocks it wasn't really seeing before, or at least holding them there for longer and giving it more chance to go unstable. For a given frequency I'm having to up voltage about 25mV.

Was able to beat my previous best scores, but only by about 0.5%.
http://www.3dmark.com/pr/1171622
Still barely in the top 20% of 3080Ti though.

If it wasn't for the market condition of trying to get a card at all, there is no way I'd buy an XC3 again. That said, Metro Exodus on Ultra with all the RayTraces in 4K is looking pretty awesome and plays rock solid. Even at a 300W undervolt it still turns my game room into a sauna.

Got the 3080 Ti XC3 yesterday and started messing with it. The Power and GPU target are set to max and added 150 to clock and memory. Set the fans to 100%. Score and link below. Question though in the the product pictures on the XC3 only show one set of the MLCC. The version I got has two sets like the FTW. Anyone else seeing this?

Yeah, both big middle capacitor positions are filled with MLCC on mine as well.

3080TI XC3 HC - Haven't tried to push my overclock too hard yet, waiting on a cpu/motherboard/memory upgrade first but I am stable with a

+500 memory
+135 Clock
Stock Voltage for a total boost to 2,055.

Temps peak out around 49C, but my office is located in my basement so ambient temps are relatively low and I'm running a multi radiator custom loop.

3080ti XC3 Gaming (Air cooled)

19.8k in Timespy is about the highest I can get with an OC and Undervolt.

1875 Mhz @ 875mV

Gets 18.7k stock.

Sorry don't have links atm, on my phone.

Card doesn't seem to have a problem hitting 350W. Does anyone know if the latest BIOS in PX1 is the beta one that was released to some forum members to fix the power issues? Or are we still waiting on that?

ETA: Disregard. I see that BIOS update was released last week.

You have to unlock voltage control in Afterburner. You can do that by going to settings

Regarding your GPU's overclock, is it completely stable at stock settings? Try running 1 hour of realbench to see if it detects any instability. Maybe something else entirely is affecting the GPU's stability?

I've done that in Afterburner as well as editing the config file. Maybe I'm confused, does voltage control ONLY give me the voltage % slider? Or am I supposed to get a voltage slider that I can up the actual voltage by mV?

Either way, I've unlocked those two options and only see a voltage % slider, which I assume isn't actually controlling the voltage much.

I kept getting clock_watchdog_timeout and WhoCrashed was telling me I'm getting intelppm.sys and ntfs.sys crashed (its about 50/50). I did SFC and CHKDSK. SFC had some errors that were repaired CHKDSK was fine. After that I:

Fresh windows install by the way with minimal programs installed
I uninstalled afterburner and went back to precision x1
Updated MOBO bios (rog xiii hero)
Updated a bunch of intel drivers

I ran 1 hour of warzone and it was fine until I tried exiting. It froze and clock_watchdog_time out BSOD is back with ntfs.sys crashing.

I know this is an overclock thread and I'll leave it at this, but if anybody has some ideas that would be great. I'm running out of options to try here...

What PSU are you running?

As my name gets closer to the top of the list, I'm getting very interested in everyone's results here. Since these XC3 cards seem to be strictly power-limited, has anyone tried moving their fans over to mobo headers or a fan hub to free up a few extra watts (EDIT: estimate was too high, cranking stock fans on 3080 FTW3 Hybrid from min to max costs about 11 watts per HWInfo) for the chips? I'm not sure if it's possible/practical on the air-cooled models, but it would be trivially easy for the rad-fans on my 3080 (non-Ti) hybrid.

Also, has anyone else caught themselves calling it 3080-Tie (like the fighter) non-ironically? After all the jokes, that pronunciation is starting to lodge itself in my head...

Stock Voltage, +100 Core +1500 VRAM seems stable at a day now of stress testing and gaming.  Peak core is 2010 but drops down to 1875-1950 due to the power limit.  Peak temp of 84c with auto fans of 81% speed.  340-355 watts.

Is there a bios I would benefit from that I could install on the card?  I assume not since I'm not capped at 300watts.
The point of undervolting is to not hit the power limiter, correct?  I can't seem to get stable at a worthwhile clock while undervolting.  Just letting it limit its self seems to be better for me.  I'll keep tinkering with it.

Moving the fan wires to the motherboard seems like a neat idea.  May have to explore that.

You want to get temps down to get better performance. More airflow with different fan curve settings on GPU and case.

You could likely undervolt to like 900mV@1900MHz range to start. Then keep lowering the voltage point until it goes unstable, then raise it back up like 12mV. A constant 1900MHz would probably out perform where you are at.

Trying to get my 3080ti xc3 stable. It will crash at stock clocks even with a more aggressive curve. I've tried a couple undervolts but even at .875 it will crash within 30 minutes. It seems stable if I underclocking. Tonight I played for a couple hours at -300 on both clocks with no issue.

I'm on the wait-list for the hybrid cooler... Hopefully that helps.

Interestingly, I have a Zotac 3070ti that had the same issue. A 5% overvolt seemed to work, but my number came up for the 3080ti before I could really test thoroughly.

Both cards had the same type of crash... Screen freezes with weird color outlines and system restarts.

Either you have some problems with your pc or you are very unlucky to have 2 gpus that are defective. Buying hybrid cooler to try and fix a gpu that crashes at stock speeds is idiotic.

that changes nothing about what I said to you. If you have a card that's not even operating properly at stock clocks then you'd be a damn fool to put a hybrid kit on it as your card is defective.

No reason to be an asshat about it. It could still be something with my system. I'm not paying extra for shipping both ways if I'm not sure that the card has a problem that can't be easily resolved with a little tuning.

Besides, EVGA still honors the warranty even if I put a cooler on it. So if I can tune it out or the extra capacity of the cooler fixes it, or I identify an issue elsewhere in my system, I save whatever I'd pay for shipping.

So anyway, if there are any adults in the room capable of having a civil conversation who could offer some genuinely helpful advice on pinpointing the exact issue, that would be appreciated.

I have GPU-Z installed along with MSI Afterburner.  I'll get some memory and CPU stress tests installed to try to see if something else is going on, but so far my only issues have been in games or benchmarks.

Interestingly, I just checked the specs for the card and EVGA specifies a 1665MHz boost clock.  But I'm pretty sure at default both Precision X1 and Afterburner show 1800MHz under test.  I'll have to double-check, but maybe a setting from the 3070ti (1830 MHz boost clock) somehow stuck around and inadvertently OCed the 3080ti?  I'll try uninstalling/re-installing the software and drivers.

Quick update.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Precision X1.  Also noticed a new Graphics bios update so installed that along with a vbios update.  Ensured Precision X1 had default settings also.  My card is now drawing over 300 watts, pretty close to 350.  Also did about an hour of benchmarking including three back to back FFXIV benchmarks which would usually cause a crash on the first run.  So far no issues.  I'll report back after having a good long gaming session.

Remember to be nice to one another! It’s ok to recommend a replacement of a card you feel might be defective but attacks against someone for not looking at an RMA are not ok!

As for the card it’s good to hear that the firmware update might have been the issue. If it’s doesn’t fix it then it’s always a good idea to keep an RMA in mind.

Re: 3080 Ti XC3 Overclocking-Undervolting Discussion 2021/08/29 11:42:59 (permalink)
Its been several days and I've had a few good gaming sessions to test things out.  Long story short, I believe I have my issue sorted out, and now I can start working on an undervolt.

So at the beginning I installed the firmware update as recommended by Precision X1.  But it still showed an update recommended for VBIOS, and I figured I already did that so I ignored it.  That was my mistake.  After uninstalling and re-installing Precision X1 to ensure I had defaults and nothing left over, I did do the VBIOS update.

After doing that, I went through several benchmarks just fine.

Next, I did some gaming sessions.  I did experience one crash of the same variety as before after about 30 minutes.  But my GPU temps were hovering around 80C, so I made one change: I changed my fan curve to "Aggressive".  After making that change and leaving everything else at default, it hasn't crashed since after probably at least 5 hours of gaming.

So lessons learned:

Trust Precision X1 and keep doing the firmware updates updates until it is happy.
Try using the "aggressive" fan curve.

Now that I am satisfied that the card works fine at stock settings (with the minor difference of using a higher fan curve), I can start playing around with undervolts.

And hopefully the Hybrid coolers come back in stock soon... 400-HY-1978-B1 8/12/2021 6:15:08 AM PT NO

I have been messing around with the Afterburner and finally been able to hit 20k on the Time Spy with a Hydrocopper.
900mv @ 1950Mhz
+420 on Mem

Checked the voltage and it hit 366W on several occasions otherwise, it was pretty much at 350W.

Edit: I can't seem to past a link, so here is the time spy result ID: 65719667

I met your setting Fkurbanov11.

Worked like a champ, but i am stuck under 20k at 19962.

Time spy Result ID:  22880118

I tried to up  900mV at 1965 +450 on mem, but no dice, 19941.

I dont think my Ryzen 3900X is the hold up, so dont know if i will bump over.

It's probably your temp.  He's on hydro copper which means he's likely close to the 50c sweet spot for boosting.  Identical settings doesn't mean the core runs the same.  It will boost higher the cooler the card is.
