Last night, I saw a weird display on the page of B&H's website about EVGA 2080ti ftw3: the expected delivery date is set for January 1, 2100.

Meh, don't worry about that.  That also happened with their Intel i9-9900K preorders too... it's just a placeholder date. 

Haha, that's it. Thank you. I was really worried when I saw the date.

I got lucky and was able to get one of the last ones. I checked the site a few minutes later and they were gone. I was thinking it would be great if you could just pre order at a first come first serve basis and when stock comes in your locked in for your card. Evga could require a deposit at pre order and then you’ll get something like a day to complete payment when your card comes in or it would be released to the next buyer. Would releve a lot of stress! What do you guys think?

I think the goal of business is to take as much money while giving as little as possible. Your plan would drive the accounting department crazy. Also, you may run into the problem of having over built your most expensive item and weigh down your inventory. Again driving your accounting department crazy. What do you think?

Good point. Didn’t think of it as an inventory thing. Would get tricky with accounting too and any backlash if buyers miss the payment window and complain. Was trying to think of a way to make it easier for everybody but I suppose it isn’t that easy! Still first come first serve on how fast you can hit the F5 button:)

It's kind of sad to see the game industry conditioning younger players to expect broken games that you have to pay more to fix.

Oh I hear you and completely agree. 
 
Huge change of the old days and it's been like this for several years now.  I feel the degradation started back in the 2000s and just progressed for the worse imo.  I remember when things came out not even close to how things are now and you're paying a pretty penny as opposed to before. lol  I think it's just taking advantage of the youth because they are inexperienced, misinformed and easier to take advantage.  Slowly but surely as more gamers and tech savy folks age, than you'll eventually see the uproar from the adults in the room and can finally pull the bull by its horns and see what's going on.
