So is that EVGA's response? basically to not install the backplate lmao... surely there's something else that can be done 

I do realize that the instructions could be better in a variety of ways, but the instructions are clear with regards to pictures and text to finish the installation, and nowhere is it mentioned to reinstall the backplate.  Graphics card compatibility is based on the instructions given with this HYBRID Kit.
 
Keep in mind that this HYBRID kit is based on the reference PCB of the GTX Titan X(P), which also works on the reference PCBs for GTX 1080 Ti cards.  As Jacob has mentioned elsewhere, we will be releasing a different HYBRID Kit for the GTX 1080 Ti cards, which you can currently see the design on the GTX 1080 Ti SC2 HYBRID card.  Those Kits are different in a number of ways and will allow the backplate to be used.  For what its worth in testing a number of cards here, backplates make little difference to the overall cooling with a HYBRID card/kit due to how efficiently the GPU and other areas are cooled.

Lee, thanks for jumping in on this thread to help clear up some of the confusion. I had a hybrid kit on the way in case I was stuck with a 1080 Ti FE card, but I applied for the 1080 Ti SC Black step-up as soon as I saw it was available on the list. This leaves me with an SC Black on the way and a 1080 Ti hybrid kit that will not work with the backplate. Can you confirm if this is simply incompatible or if it is just a matter of sourcing different sized screws/hardware? Also, is there any more information coming on the different HYBRID kit you alluded to? If it is based on the SC2 design, will it work with the SC Black? If so, I'll simply return the current kit and wait for the new revision.

I am not certain if they line up properly or not, but OP might be able to confirm. I am still in queue for the SC Black step-up and my Hybrid kit is unopened. Based on OP's original posts, it does seem to indicate all the mounting holes line up and it was a matter of the included hardware not being correct. I am hoping it is only a matter of finding the correct size screw but I was trying to confirm that prior to opening up the hybrid kit or keeping it beyond my return window (depending on how long the step-up queue lasts).

so all we need is new screws that is not hard.

Good luck getting an ETA about anything from EVGA. If it's not on their site, it doesn't exist.

Just have to find out what size and how long and then where to get them.

I was in contact with Customer Support via email about the issue and they told me they will get back to me in 2-3 business days. Which should be today, but since it's already end-of-day in California (i know because i'm going home from work now lol) I doubt I'll be hearing back today. Maybe Monday, meh it's kinda whatever at this point.

Yeah, I am in a kind of similar dilemma, I have already bought the Hybrid Kit and I am in the queue for the FE, but after finding out about the step up to the Black Edition and the fact that I am still within my 90 days I am eager to know if the back plate can be attached. If it can, I will cancel my current step up and re queue for the black.
 
Either way, I would definitely prefer to have the back plate installed.

Keep us posted when you hear back from support. I'm sure evga knows the hardware included with both the kit and the SC Black. This should be a simple matter for them to provide an answer on what size screws would be required to make this work.

No, because, while they are long enough, they're too thin to mate with the threads on the Hybrid Cooler midplate.

What are you doing for VRM and memory cooling?

I tried emailing support to get some follow up information on the SC Black backplate compatibility with the current hybrid kit, or if there was more information regarding an updated hybrid kit (not surprised they can't comment on that). Unfortunately, I think the support representative that responded either misunderstood or was confused. The full response to my request was the following:
 
Thank you for contacting us here with that information. I'm taking a look at the SC Gaming Black Edition on the step up list. The SC Black Edition is using an ICX Cooler, which would make it a custom PCB as it has the 9 thermal sensors added (larger PCB). The Hybrid kit that you've purchased is made for the reference designs and not Custom PCB's. In short, it's not supported at the moment, you can try if you'd like. Please keep in mind that any modifications done to the card may cause you to void the warranty if damages were to occur during the process.  

As reference to Lee's posts by Jacob, we do not have any further information about products that have yet to be released. Once again, I do apologize about the inconveniences that you're receiving. If you've recently stepped up to the 1080 Ti SC Black Edition, this Hybrid cooler for the 1080 Ti Founders Edition will not fit properly. 
 
The above information seems to be incorrect as we know the SC Black does not have the ICX sensors or technology. We also know that the kit itself fits the card fine (and is listed as compatible on the product page), but that the SC Black backplate does not fit with the included hardware. From the information in this thread, I think we have it narrowed down to simply needing a different sized screw, but it would be nice if someone from EVGA could confirm/deny that and let us know which size we should be looking for.
 
I believe OP was also in contact with support and hopefully he can get some better information, or maybe someone from EVGA can chime in since a handful of people here voiced interest in fitting an SC Black with a hybrid kit. I would hate to return the kit if all I need to make the backplate work is some new screws.
 
Regardless, I'm just glad we got the option to step up to the SC Black. The hybrid kit was purchased when I thought I was going to be getting the FE, and I'm sure the ICX cooler will work fine if the hybrid kit doesn't work out.

Can't you just put the blackplate on the back side of the card and find longer screws without the cap. Or do u need to use the standoff.i can't wait till I get the cards.

So it looks like we need longer screws and thicker thermal pads. Might be better to leave the backplate off.

any info how to install the backplate yet.
 

Well, my 1080 TI FE was approved and seeing I have the hybrid kit here I'm just going to go with it. The difference between the black and the FE is going to be negligible/non existent with the hybrid cooler any ways and I much rather have the back plate on for cosmetic reasons.
