Alright everyone, I think I have this figured out, but I want to run this by yall and see if I have this right: So, I started having a strange problem. I had my computer on and plugged and USB device into my front I/O ports of my HAF 932. Suddenly my G15 logitech keyboard went blank and every USB device I had disconnected (I am on a 770 and am not sure about the USB 3.0 ports). I heard the Windows disconnect sound MANY times. Anyways, I did a reboot using the power button and when the system turned back on the ports were still off. To fix it, I had to do a cold reboot and it was back to normal. I thought it might be a fluke so I tried it again and the same thing happened! So, I did the cold boot again and used the back USB ports which worked with no problems. I figure it is a grounding issue with the front USB ports causing the mobo to protect itself by disabling the USB ports. Would I be correct? Anyone else have any theories for what was going on?

Yeah, or it shorted out (other than to ground). Some of the contacts inside prob shorted, or got a tiny piece of loose metal in there. Could have also been on the back side, but highly unlikely. Those FP USB connectors are made by the cheapest supplier. Disconnect it from USB header, and don't use it again. With a little luck, maybe it didn't fry anything in your mobo. Scary bc that's what I have too. I'd imagine that your case warranty is expired, you could call CM and see if they offer replacements. What was it that you plugged in? If the comp works OK after you disconnect FP header, you should try the device in a rear USB. If it happens again, then you know it is the device. I would be apprehensive about plugging it into any other comp until then.

Main (gaming) rig: i7-3930K; Asus Rampage IV Extreme; H100 W/p-p Excaliburs, AS5; MSI 7870 2GD5/OC; Crucial M4 SSD 256GB. See my primary ModsRigs: Adam for the rest, and I have a second (wife's) rig Asus Rampage III Extreme & 960: Eve. Overclocking is useless to me if it is not rock stable.

Rear USB works just fine. It appears that the effect is a protective measure of the mobo to keep it from damaging itself. Everything works fine, and it looks good to go (Except for those front USB ports, of course). Case is under warranty so going to file my claim through them for a new I/O port. They are only $10 anyways.

I've damaged two I/O sections on my HAF 932 and have had the same issues with the FP USB headers causing shorts like you described. I tried to reorder a new unit but I don't think CM has them for sale anymore and they need to be RMA'd.

It could also be the USB drop-out issue(s) that have been known about EVGA X58 boards. I'm not real sure if it has cropped up in the classy's or not. You can read more about it here http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=120174&high=usb+dropouts My rig started to behave badly this past weekend. I have the G19 and a G9 connected to it via it's USB2 port. It was dropping out like every 5 minutes or so. I looked high and low and found no definitive answers. Some say it's the mobo, some say it's Logitech. I don't know. I flashed the bios and installed the latest Intel chipset drivers and haven't had a drop-out since.

@happaflapp This one was the official EVGA tech thread: For those who are experiencing USB issues There never was any consensus on a cause nor fix, but you should try increasing your ICH to 1.15V. There were some things that worked for a few individuals, this was one of them. I think it may prevent USB failure issues.
