Hello everyone! I have been trying my 780 classy and getting to know this little precious... I am quite pleased with with but, as with everything, there are a few caveats. The caveats with mine are, essentially, the noises it makes! :) When the graphic card is being used and the fans are spinning at around 60-75%, there is a kind of metallic vibrational noise (can't really describe it better). If I press on the cooler or if I increase the speed, the noise goes away. I am attaching a video (sorry for the quality...) where this is evident. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzfQGH8UkKg What do you guys think I should do? RMA it to EVGA? Do all the 780 classys do this? Cheers

I had the same problem strait out of the box roughly at the same speeds. Now I'm dealing with that on a r9 290x sapphire tri-oc, and I'm not sure if I should bother with the return on it. I rma'd my GTX 780 and received one that is silent. No it shouldn't make that noise.

I am very curious if this is the bearing itself making the noise or if it is the drive motor. I hope to have mine stuff up Friday, and I am going to check all 4 of my cards. I also wonder what causes the specific fan speed to make the noise as everyone that is reporting it says 45% and 60% are the area doing it. I will check on 2x760s and 2x780 Ti Classifieds.
Where are you having to touch to get the noise to stop?

From the sound of mine, I thought it was the fan blades against the heatsink fins.

It is probably a tolerance issue that they show have adjusted, moving the fan back 1-2mm maybe more. You would think as the fans get faster, they would draw away from the fins, as they as 1 facing down and 2 pushing air onto the fins meaning they should pull away. That is what makes me think it is either the bearing or the motor itself.

In fact the speed is not the sole variable. If I just up the fans to 75% when the GPU is not under load, the noise is not there. It is only the combination of GPU under load and fans at around those speeds. Its like a certain frequency of vibration that leads to the production of the noise? If I press on the cooler from bellow or if I tight the card between my fingers (one finger top and one bottom), the noise goes away. Again, there is something vibrating, but not really sure what it is. In any case, is it evident on the video I posted? I am wondering whether to reach EVGA or contact the store that sold me the card (given I have just received it).

I would forward this directly to EVGA. They don't seem to answer for this or acknowledge it on the forums. I would either start an RMA, switch to water blocks (obviously not feasible if you want to stay on air) or apply the fix in the other thread. First option should be RMA.

How does the RMA works? Do I have to pay for shipping? How long it takes to get the GPU replaced? They do have a big sticker on the box saying "in case of problem contact us and not the seller", but I am wondering if it wouldn't be simpler for me to go to the store and get a new card... (I am in France and I am not sure there is a EVGA France)

You can try the seller, but I would think it would go to EVGA IN Europe, and I am pretty sure you have to pay the shipping to them. http://www.evga.com/Support/rma.aspYou will need to adjust for your EVGA site, I think, but the area is under support. There is also a how to RMA section under the member account section. Make sure your card is registered, invoice is uploaded and everything is filled out. I feel you on shipping. I am in an area they will not ship to at all, no matter how small the part. It's a bummer. You do have two options, and even though it may cost you some cash out of pocket, you may be able to work with EVGA for the new card and also have some paperwork to follow.

I am pretty sure EVGA won't change anything for shipping. I mean. why should somebody have to pay for something that broke. plus EVGA europe is apparently in germany. so france to germany is not far. it literally takes a day or two for mail to get there so yeah. my fans started making noise when they go 85-100% too. sounds like it hitting something. not sure if I should RMA since I only reach those speeds while gaming or benching and if I am gaming my headphones are all the way up anyway.

EVGA doesn't ship a box to RMA their items in, so you are paying shipping and I do not think they will refund it.

Yeah, very common issue: http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=2018526 Too bad EVGA doesn't seem to be acknowledging/fixing the issue. Anyway, mine seems to be coming from the rear somewhere... Probably where the other user who fixed theirs is coming from. Some of it, my idle noise, was the bracket vibrating against the case. I was able to fix that, but it still does the fan grind noise at about 45% and 65% fan speeds. If you can't live with it, I would RMA... However, judging by the scope of the issue and the fact that it was around with the 780's and now the 780Ti, I would think they have yet to fix it. This means that you will probably get a replacement with the same issue.

Yeah, one of my Classifieds had this issue and the fix mentioned in that thread did the trick. My other card is fine. I did previously own a regular ACX Ti with this problem.

I did not realize how often this is happening, so I publicly apologize for being a douche about on the other threads. I do believe, although it may not go far, that people that are having the problem email EVGA directly or get an actual petition together. I won't be worried about the ACX, as I said before, but it is kind of silly to see that they aren't acknowledging it at all.

Thank you all for all your answers and opinions. I will phone the store tomorrow... I am a bit worried that this is a wider problem and, as mentioned, the replacement will have the same vibration noises. In fact, now that I think of it, the cooler doesn't really seem to sit tight on the card. Maybe that is another reason for these vibration noises. Anyway... I will phone the seller and then EVGA. But I would like to ask again... after listening to the noise on the video... It is not my imagination is it?

That is actually really horrible. a customer shouldn't have to pay for a box and shipping if something breaks down. THEY tell us to have the RMA go through them instead of the store you might of bought it from and then they make you pay for shipping while if you went to the store it would of been free.

Hi there milcs. Just wathed the vídeo. My card sounded like that so i aplyed the fix: http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=2018526 and it worked. The noise is coming from some loose fins that will create the rattle at some rpm of the fans. I also pm you today. Best of luck.

I pray I misinterpreted the way it worked, because I have seen a few posts of people saying that it costs them to ship stuff. I know that if I ever have to RMA, that I will pay out of pocket because EVGA will not ship to a military APO/FPO address. I still get baffled by that this day and age, when we can't mail to specific areas of the world. I know companies like to say, "but stuff get stolen and damaged, so we can't afford it..." what the heck is shipping insurance for? A priority box is between $7 and $15 USD... And it comes with a minimal $200 insurance... "But... UPS doesn't ship to APO" which is incorrect, because they will tack on the fee to deliver directly to the port that delivers to APO... I get boxes from them all the time, and the vendor loses nothing. But, here I sit, unable to get stuff from EVGA without paying ridiculous rates to send it to a friend and then paying again for them to send it to me. That is my biggest grievance that EVGA has caused me so far. They can easily put the bill on the end user, and it is something they won't do.

I went through EVGA RMA in europe a while ago. I had to arrange and pay the Courier fees upfront as I reside in Ireland. But EVGA did recompense me in full on what were not inconsiderable courier fees as my RMA was within 30 days. The replacement card itself was faulty so I had to go through RMA again but they also covered the courier fee on the second RMA. @ milcs If your Card is under 30 days old and you reside in the UK I believe that EVGA provide a UPS pickup. If you bought the classy from OCUK I would just return it direct to them. They're a decent e-tailer. Dominik Ungermann (EVGA EU) is fairly active on the OCUK forums. I myself would have went through my retailer at the time but they had no stock to replace my card, I bought a GTX 780 when they launched. I've had two GTX 780's with the ACX cooler and neither made that noise. It's unfortunate for those that have ACX coolers that have that issue.

Hello everyone! Just wanted to update and let people know about the follow on with my graphic card...
So, I have sent my 780 classy back to the vendor because of a very evident rattling noise of the ACX cooler. Today I received a new graphic card and, so far so good... Didn't notice any rattling noise yet (didn't really test it much) but, the electronic buzzing noise is present every now and then. Nothing too obvious though, so that is OK. On the (very) positive side... This card comes with higher ASIC score (79.3% vs 67.7%). Not exactly sure if this a consequence of that, but my card is boosting higher out of the box and I can reach 1306MHz without any bios change or voltage change (besides the one I am allowed in PrecisionX).
Bottom line... Couldn't be more happy! I was wondering whether I shouldn't have got the 780ti classified instead but, given the shortage of supply in Europe (whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy??????) and the fact that towards the end of the year a new card will be out, I decided that the best would be to keep this amazing card. Obviously the silence and the increased OC capability of the new card largely contributed to make me confident about this decision.
Bottom line... This card is AMAZING! I am baffled with how good it is... It is actually quite silent (unless you are benchmarking it) and it is amazing how cool it runs on idle (27-28ºC)! Way to go EVGA... You just became one of my favourite hardware companies! :)
