Hello guys,

As the topic reads when I set in bios XMP 2, my temps increase 5-10c because the CPU stays locked at 100% load. I have updated to latest bios (1.13 EVGA X99 FTW btw). Using Corsair Platimun DDR 4 (4x4gb). I've set the sticks on the odd numbered channels as indicated by the /mobo. When set on auto eveything works fine.

CPU: I7 6900K @ Stock
GPU: EVGA GTX 1080s HydroCopper
Ram: 32Gb Corsair Platinum DDR4 @ stock
SDD: Intel SSD 500 GB
HDD: 1TB Western Digital Caviar Blue
Mobo: EVGA X99 FTW
Display: Acer Predator Ultra Wide 34"
OS: Windows 10 64 Bit Prof.
PSU: EVGA 1000W G2

Setting XMP is only for Ram ,nothing else happens. Did u change something in bios what have to do with Cpu? Vcore?CPU Vin?Maybe the auto settings give 2 much.Igot it with CPUvin auto 2.2V ,regular u need there only 0.6 max more then Vcore. Load default settings of bios and try Xmp load again.I dont think cpu stuck at 100% because of Xmp.

OK I've set everyhing to default and its working now! Thanks. Could've sworn I didn't touch anythin on the CPU side. Anyways when I set XMP 2 my bus speed is set to 127.34 mhz by default. Is that normal?

I want to Oc my cpu to 4.6ghz, I tried adative mode on voltage settings and set the offset to +125 and haven't had any luck. Any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks again man.

Setting an XMP profile will change your BCLK. That is normal. Adjust your CPU multiplier back down to get your core speeds back to where they were stable at your set voltage and you should be fine.

It will be nice if we know what kind of hardware u have.Yes if ure ram-profile is higher then 2667 xmp must raise bclk to 125. This is the kind oof problem u have, that ure cpu is on full load, its like auto Oc ,without knowing settings.First try 2 Oc ure Cpu with a Bclk of 125.If u get this running stable,u can try ram oc with loading ure Xmp.

    Corsair Platinum 16gb DDR4

I have both my CPU and GPUs water cooled btw.

As you stated when I set XMP 2 my bclk is defaulted to 125. On the tutorials I've seen bclk is set to 100 mhz. So yea I'll go ahead and set ram tu auto, increase multipiler to 45-46 and go from there.

Don't use XMP, just setup your RAM manually.

I still dont see what a kind of ram u use.2800/3000/3200mhz? You reach 2800/3000/3200 only with a 125blck.  So try first oc ure cpu with a 125bclk to 4.5-4.6 and get it stable. After this u can load the Xmp profile without any trouble. Also u can set it manually like u want. But if u oc with multipiler u only can get run Ram at 2667.

Wow. Ok I've tried setting offset and adaptive with CPU Voltage at around 1.35 and as soon as I launch Prime 95 my Pc locks up. Ram is set to auto. Multiplier set to 46. This is on a watercooled i7 5930K.

Nm guys. P95 was the problem. Currently running AIDA 64 Extreme and is going well. Once core is reaching 84c though, a bit high imo. The rest are starying at 77C max. Maybe I'll reapply tim. I'll keep you posted.

Prime will also work, but if u use, only version 27.9 not the new one. 84C uff got with 4.5ghz at 1.26 only 60c. Watercooled with HK3.0 !

Not bad my room temps dont help me at all though, and I also need a bigger case. I lowered voltage to 1.339, mxing out at 87C is once core :( Hopefully its stable.

I know I know. This has been a hassle for a while now. I'm using 3 Rads ( 120mm, 240mm and a 240mm extra thick rad). My GPUs both have EK blocks and Backplates and on my CPU I have an Apogee XL block. My case is a Corsair 600T. I also have two pumps (EK) and two reservoirs. I've tried everything to lower my temps and I honestly believe that my case is the problem, there's just too much stuff in it.

Ok guys so I havn't been able to get a stable Oc. I've tried both adaptive and offset, set voltage at 1.35 and my Pc awlays crashes. I haven't touched Ram btw, its set to Auto. Trying to do 4.5 and even when trying to go from 4.0ghz and up the Pc crashes. This is driving me insane. I mean what's the purpose of a costume loop if you can't Oc your CPU!!!

Are you running 2 loops?  Also, what is the orientation of all the parts, what order is everything in, also which fans are intake and which are exhaust?  What exact rads do you have, what fans on them, are they in push, pull or push/pull, and how are they powered/controlled (mobo control can be a big issue is it is not monitored and set correctly)?  What pumps?  We can likely figure this out for you, but we will need more info.  Also, when you are running the system and it is getting warm, are the tubes warm as well?  Are you feeling any substantial heat being vented out of the radiators?
At any point did the loop cool as intended?

Thanks of the response Dave. Im just gonna go ahead a post some pics, its easier and more self explanatory that way. I'll just give a quick detail of my loop. Pump (EK DCP 4.0) to Alphacool 240mm 8mm thick rad (Front) with four fans (Noctua Fans) pulling , Alphacool Rad to 240mm Black Ice Nemesis (top rad) with two Noctua Fans as exhaust, top rad to R9 290X GPUs (2). The GPUs drain to a 5.25 bay reservoir. Bay resevoir to 2nd pump, 2nd pump to 120mm Rad (Ouside of the case with 2 fans as exhaust), 120mm rad to CPU block, CPU block to Bitspower Water tank 150 inline reservoir. Bitspower reservoir to first pump. And that finished the loop.

And actually no, the loop has never cooled as intended :( I mean an H100 worked just as fine.....

As far as fan control I use the Corsair 600T fan control.

The tubes to get extremely warm when the PC is being stressed, so do the Rads, I mean to a point where they get very hot to the touch.

My ambient temp is around 77F, and thats cool for where I live (Venezuela)

As you can see I only have one rad for the CPU, the other two are for the Video Cards.

Btw Im using a Coolemaster 850w PSU.

I would do it all one loop and one reservoir.  I would put the two pumps in serial and make sure the CPU WB has good contact.  NO point and no need for two loops anymore in today's more efficient H20 gear.

What is the FPI on those rads and what RPMs are your fans set at?

You do have enough rad to cool that CPU and GPUs even though those GPU's can dump some pretty good heat.  What temps do you get when everything is in stock?  Hold off on the OCing for now and lets see if we can increase the performance of your loop.

Your ambient temps aren't so bad.  You should be getting way better temps than what you're getting.  Something is not adding up.

What fluids do you use and how long have you had the loop going for?  Whens the last time you did maintenance?

Re: XMP 2.0 Stucks CPU at 100% Load 2014/12/24 18:08:52 (permalink)
Ok guys so I'm gona go ahead and change my loop layout. I'll just leave the rads in their place. The 240mm Fat Rad con only go that spot (FRONT) or it has to go outside the case on the top.  So this is what I plan to do:

-EK Pump to Alphacool 240 mm x 8mm Fat Rad.
-Alphacool 240 mm x 8mm Fat Rad to GPUs.
-GPUs to 5.25 Inch Reservoir Bay.
-5.25 Inch Reservoir Bay to 240 mm top Rad.
-240 mm Top Rad to 120 mm Rad (Outside of the case)
-120 mm Rad to CPU Block.
-CPU Block to Bitspower Water tank 150 inline reservoir.
-Bitspower Water tank 150 inline reservoir to Pump.

So I'm going to be removing the 2nd pump from the loop and use two rads for the CPU.

Please let me know if any of you have any suggestions. I posted some pics of my current loop setup and my temps suck balls lol.

I am a bit confused.  Are you one big single loop or just switching up the rads to give the CPU loop more rad and the GPU's loop less?

It was a big single loop. I removed the 2nd pump and the outside rad (120mm). I'm using the big fat rad for the GPUs and the top rad for the CPU. The new loop is shorter now, it looks way cleaner and the hoses length are much shorter. I had the top noctua fans as exhaust, now they are pulling air in to cool the CPU's top rad (240mm), same as the 4 noctua fans on the front rad ( 240mm fat rad). The only exhaust fan is the one on the back of the case. I am also using now the mobo's fan headers for all my fans instead of the case's fan controller. All in all its looking great now, and the loop looks far more efficient than before. All that its left is some testing. I'll post some pics once I have it running.

FYI I also changed the CPU Swiftech XL block for a EK Evo Supremacy block.

X fingers that my temps are going to be better now.

Looks is one thing but having enough heat surface is another or at least what your temps will say after a 30 min benchmark.  Those GPU's run hot, you're close if not on air temps with that much rad.  There really isn't a rule of thumb but I always have said 120.2 per chip if you want something that can be very cool and quiet.  In today's watercooling world, we advise to run it all in one big loop as the water cooling gear in the modern day compared to the old days are way more efficient and cost affective.  Not worth buying parts for 2 full loops.  Regardless your CPU should be happy with 120.2 of heat surface but your GPU's I believe won't and changing CPU blocks won't matter much, if anything a few degrees +/- within margin of error.

Thanks again for the response Jack. Here's a pic of the new loop. I have to admit that the older one was a cluster ****. I haven't ran any stress test yet. I'll keep you posted. Hopefully the change of the top noctua fans from exhaust to intake will have a good impact on my temps.

Ok Jack so I'm running Aida 64 stress test now. Everything is at stock. I'm maxing out at  47C in one core. The rest stay below 45C. I used to max out at 70C with my old loop at stock!!!! The mobo's LED used to show 45C - 50C, now its 31C!!!! This is amazing. Seriously just compare the photos, my old loop against the new one.

I believe the fans did the trick, they are WAY louder now that they are connected to the Mobo's headers. On idle I'm just below 30C. I have to try some Ocing now. Thing is its been a hassle even at CPU Voltage of +1.35, the pc just kept locking up (memory on auto).

Great news and great temps!  For the record, you went single loop or two separate because from my understanding you had 2 loops originally and than said you were 1 big loop so I am not sure what you're loop configuration is as we stand.
