Did a bit more digging and the stepup program would be good but, it is only a "one for one" swap. So I would have to swap out both cards and that would end up being more money than I really can afford right now.
I'm hoping EVGA will step up and represent by backing up the cards and make things right.
I really don't approve of the step-up for it to be considered a "warranty". That doesnt make any sense to drop $300+ to get better cards, just because these ones didnt work...yeah ok. I understand where you are coming from, and your cards should be working in the first place... But anyhow, what's your motherboard like? Did you upgrade the BIOS on it? and does it have all the updates? You say that the cards work individually... Do the cards work while they are in the motherboard, but SLI "disabled"? Bottom line, if you've done everything I asked (including everyone else) and it's "yes" to everything, take these cards back and get your money back. Then get the 980. Price should be equivalent, if not less, and you'll get amazing performance. You might be passed your store's return policy (don't know where you bought it from). If so, see if EVGA will authorize you to RMA your cards and swap out for a 980. They might go for it. There might be a "little" (not alot) money you'll have to throw down.

Motherboard is up to date with bios and reset to defaults. The cards run fantastic, as long as I don't turn on SLI until the computer has booted. I have absolutely zero issues with the system other than the booting while SLI is enabled.
At this point I will let EVGA do their poking around.

We have a fix for this now. Anyone who is affected by this issue please email me at with your cards part number and serial number.
Do we have to give you the card part number and serial? I really don't want to unplug my computer and take out the graphics card... Edit: Stopped being lazy and took out graphics card, sent parts & serial # to Jacob.

The info should be on the box if you still have it or if you registered it, on the support page under the support tickets tab Otherwise, ya pull the card. Also, i have already ran the update and it works awesome. Thanks again EVGA Team

It was fixed last week. See post above. The cards have been working grea since the bios fix they sent me. "We have a fix for this now. Anyone who is affected by this issue please email me at jacobf@evga.com with your cards part number and serial number."

Is this problem only 4gb specifically? I intend to run SLI soon. I have the 2 gb version though. Thanks.

I just want to say thank you thank you thank you for making this post and EVGA team coming up with a fix! This is my 5th build and I never ran into a problem this annoying with no information on how to go about fixing it. So glad I found this forum and topic! Thanks again everyone!

It's only the 4GB 960 models. The 2GB models are fine.

I was having system crashes even after the firmware update so..
I read about someone bumping the VDD PCIE voltage which made things stable for sli cards (second sli cards run with less voltage often varying)
I set VDD PCIE voltage to 1.270 under my Motherboard Bios and also Set LLC and all the other DIGI+ applicable settings to "Extreme"
I also enabled PCIe "Spread Spectrum"
and wow, my gtx 960 4gb SSC's are crushing furmark and OC scanner X benchmarks AND stable!
I just played Tomb Raider with my new LG 144hz monitor and this rocks!!!!! Can't believe what I was missing before upgrading my gfx card setup and monitor lol

Hello all I have had the same problem as discrivbed by all of you. The EVGA tech that I spoke to suggested a bios update which did not work. The next day when I called back the next tech suggested doing a clean install of the drivers without the GeForce Experience. This seemed to work. I have been able to enable SLI and shut down my system without it locking up on restart. I just purchased my 2 EVGA GTX 960 4MB cards 2 weeks ago and have been trying to get them to work ever since. I do know my system reboots with SLI enabled I have not had a chance to play any of my games yet. Try this and see if it works for you. It is very disappointing after spending this kind of money to not have the product work. I am considering returning these cards and getting a different brand.
