Wouldnt the card be reduced in size due to hbm2 being on the die?

new gfx in less then a year? already? they just released the 1070 and 1080 in the market!! for Christ sake... why this move? obviously i've heard of VOLTA generation a while back and it's mem improvements.... but i thought it would be a bit further in the future... maybe 2018. and there was supposed to be a Einstein gen that strangely disappeared or was canceled.. i dunno if this is true or not... it doesn't make any sense from a business point of view but... but it does change things a bit... makes me wonder... and so.. i may have to rethink my strategy for X-mas / JAN / February .. guess my GTX 760 will have to last longer till then.. as i haven't found yet the perfect gfx for 2560x1600 gaming... and besides..... prices have being insane lately... nothing wrong in sitting aside and observe what will happen the next 6 months

Hmm nvidia is going to be taking a lot of my money if I end up going the titan series route lol. I generally don't go for anything less than ti's when a new line of cards come out but ill still go for the titan p soon since it's faster than the 1080 and should handle all games in 4k 60 fps or 120+ in 1440p.

Ive never heard of the einstein gen til u mentioned it here and ive been watching nvidia's prospective tech like a hawk since the 200 series. 2017 was supposed to b pascal refresh, im taking this news with a grain of salt. I would think that the volta gpu wouldnt launch til late 2017 even if they did boost its release date window.

Like the rumor noted, it may be Tesla or Quadro which get launched first in the spring of 2017 and consumer cards which launch later towards the fall of 2017.

probably Nvidia changed the name of the gen in question. i read about it somewhere about 3/ 4 years ago. if you google it you may actually see something about it. http://www.3dcenter.org/news/nvidias-maxwell-nachfolger-hoert-auf-den-namen-einstein http://n4g.com/news/1035723/nvidia-einstein-the-succesor-of-maxwell no big deal. just a name change i guess... anyway Volta is supposed to be a big leap in performance due to new memory concept in gfx cards. and i wonder what happened to project "Denver"... besides you prolly right... VOLTA generation for consumers is most likely to late 2017 / beginning 2018.

yes the idea is to put it on chip to speed up memory transfer - but that makes a bigger chip and if we stay 16nmand go volta ...they can go larger - just be like 600-700mm there will be additional ram because if I am right it will be the first 8K gaming card...so like 16-32 GB of ram? Max ram capacity for volta is 64GB....wowsa http://cs.nyu.edu/courses/fall15/CSCI-GA.3033-004/gpu-arch.pdf what comes after volta?

yeah the really wan't too much on topic lol. but it is going to be a lot more expensive for some of us to keep upgrading every 12 months from either x80 series or more so titan series and then having nvidia add 10-20% inflation each year that amd doesn't complete. So the original titan x camp out in may of 1015 or so and this new titan releases in august of 2016 thats about 17 months right. so now if this romer is correct nvidia will speed up the releasing from 17 months to about 12 months and then add about 10-20% inflation on the cost of the new cards.

the 10nm won't be ready...delays... testing will be lucky if it ready for 2018 so doing it on 16nm makes sense if they can fit it and get the power savings with the new arch

I found a cure for the part in bold. Don't upgrade every 12 months. Problem 100% solved. There is not enough of a performance gain to justify the upgrade anyway. The "Want" to upgrade is not a requirement. I hope volta makes it out next year without another horrible launch.

Maybe Nvidia knows something we don't. Corporate espionage? We should see 14nm FinFet Vega Q1 2017 with HBM2 and is expected to be an enthusiast part. I base that on AMD is expected to release their Pascal GPUs for the supercomputer and HPC market with HBM2 in Q3 2016 and they are said to have partnered with Samsungto deploy HBM2 memory on their GPUs who initiated mass production of their 4 GB HBM2 chips in early Q1-2 2016. Hater's are gonna hate but I do believe it will be worth the wait. Talking about a part that is 10 months away in the midst of a release is odd at best. "On steroids" I get it

This isn't much of a surprise to be honest. HBM2 was supposed to be featured on Pascal cards, but that clearly didn't happen. Also, Nvidia needs an answer for async compute, which it seems like Pascal did not provide, given the results of RX 480 vs. GTX 1060 in DX12 titles. We have some big DX12 games coming later this year as well. However, since games have not been graphically demanding at all this year, it's not the end of the world since you'll be maxing your refresh rate on your monitor with a GTX 1080 or two.

I think these things combined with the likelihood that they won't change a node between pascal and volta they scrapped a revised pascal. Especially since yields have supposedly been fairly good. Also, Volta was targeted to be the HBM memory card all the way back as long as shortly after fermi.

I think nvidia just ran into too much trouble to put hbm2 on pascal cards or the profit margins would be smaller and amd just couldn't compete enough this year.

GTC 2017 years that will be held only until May, instead of every year, the traditional March or April it? So we can reasonably suspect that the reason why Huang release postponed to next year in May, there may be three or April is not ready products based on the new architecture of the Volta, released this year after a new graphics architecture Pascal has still not fully Distribution, less than a year is too short to be replaced. Within a reasonable range of estimates, GTC 2017 Conference Nvidia may release a new GPU called GV100 core, the purpose is still the data center market, for the replacement of the previous flagship product GP100, one-year product update cycle, today's data center is indeed quite common. Consider upgrading to the new year's Pascal architecture GPU cores, including GP104 and GP106 were unveiled in May, when the GV100 really officially announced in May, then, GTC 2017 Conference We may also see that Nvidia released for gaming the first Volta architecture based graphics products, the GPU core code should be GV 104, Distribution official time to market is likely in mid-2017 to the end of June or July. At the same time, it is expected for the game enthusiasts GV 106 kernel, as well as most high-end core product GV 102 GV 106 may come out in the fall of 2017. Of course, Nvidia's next-generation GPU architecture Volta still using 16nm process. ------------------------------ take it with a grain of salt notes Nvidia was testing 10nm Volta in April in the Nvidia Failure lab - the worker on the Video specifically said 10nm The date for the GTC was purposely delayed for may 2017(a couple of months later) - to match the release date of pascal - 1 yr later so what you will have is probably 10nm Volta - ie GV100 - which is already in the Nvidia drivers since April it will be a paper launch like Pascal for jun/july GV104 with fall/winter the remainder of the lineup looking to Kill AMD Vega before it gets out the door Nvidia smells blood in the water there are other people entering into the GPU market and the server card market(knights landing) so they may want to kill one of the the competitors right now and then deal with intel one on one gv100 - 10nm gv102 - 10nm gv104 10nm/16nm - smaller chip than gv100 or go big as or slightly bigger than gv100 at 16nm gv106 16nm (since it's 1/2 gv104 you could double the cuda count and be a small as gp104)

The GeForce GTX 1080 Is The Best Selling High-End Card Ever Released – AIBs Confirm maybe because of record demand http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/232575-availability-check-can-you-buy-the-latest-polaris-and-pascal-gpus-from-amd-and-nvidia i would also refer people to read link above where High end Pascal is out selling middle lane polaris 480's Data from Mindfactory.de suggests that the RX 480’s uptake has been fairly modest thus far. When we checked Mindfactory last week, we counted a total of 2,270 RX 480’s sold through the site. Seven days later, that number stands at 2,605, for a net gain of 335 cards. The GTX 1080 had sold 4,305 cards on 7/21 and 4,965 cards on 7/28, for a net gain of 660 cards. This is more or less the opposite of what one might expect, since high-end cards tend to sell in much smaller figures than low-end GPUs do, but there are caveats in play. As we noted last month, the GTX 1080 was in very short supply, implying that some of what we’re seeing is pent-up upgrades from people still snapping up cards. Nvidia’s market share is also significantly larger than AMD’s, which will skew sales — very strong sales of a chip when you only have 20-25% of the overall market is a much smaller piece of the pie than it would be if the situation were reversed. It’s also possible that some customers are holding off on buying the RX 480 until third-party OEM cards are available, since those are expected to use eight-pin PCI Express connectors and may feature better overclocking.

Xavier, everybody and their mother still doesn't understand supply and demand (I guess people were asleep during economics class...) It is the most selling card, but Nvidia can't keep up. Makes total sense to me. Logic is gone in this generation of GPUs... Maybe they should read a book on economics. Also everybody all gung ho and tweaked on GDDR5X... That "X", man... Mind blowing.... lmao. They'll get over it sooner or later.

If that's true maybe is better waiting Volta??? We can survive winter on older games... hmmm... For me would be nice to upgrade space on computer little and M.2 and than GPU... or opposite? Performance increase from Kepler to Volta is what most people like. That's real upgrade... I mean Kepler to Pascal is great, but to Volta... Maybe we can expect and better TITAN than this year. Pascal TITAN is not interesting at all. Crippled cards leave bad taste. You play and play and you know that same chip could be better and than miss few fps and you try to OC and think Uhhh 15-20% more would be great. I was in that situation with GTX780... In that time GTX780Ti was just proper performance for my need.

NVidia should start making cell phones - this fits right in line with the current trend in that area. Release a new gen every year for a ton of money with marginal / incremental features. Problem is they wouldn't do it if people didn't buy it. Fine with me - I love getting 2nd hand equipment that still performs well at a steep discount! At the same time the hype for Pascal seemed more than normal. Months of "Don't buy 9xx series because Pascal will be 2x the performance for 1/2-2/3 the price"... How's that workin for ya?

Ohhhhh I remember hearing months of that. It kicked them right in the rear alright, pretty much backfired right on their lap, not understanding that everybody is "going to six flags on 'Tuesdays and not Saturdays'". I know you all been there and understand that phrase, don't pretend you don't . It could be like this towards the end of the year. It also doesn't help at all that people who did have Maxwell were so eager to upgrade to Pascal. There was no reason to. The only people with Maxwell I will give exceptions to are the ones with 960s. But yep, everyone too eager and impatient to hit the pre-order button.
