I bought Evga 1080 FTW card and have connected two monitors with.

1. Asus 27" 1440p 144Hz through display port
2. BenQ 27" 1080p 60Hz through dvi cable

There is no signal through display port until Windows loads in. Second monitor is fine. Currently it is not a big deal since i can make bios and other outside windows changes through second monitor but again no signal from display port until nvidia drivers are loaded and then everything is fine.

As far as card goes, runs cool, boost clock reaches 1986Mhz, I don't use evga oc precision tool...really don't care about that stuff. Gaming is amazing and again no problems there.

Is it possible that there are some hardware incompatibility issue between monitor and card which is corrected once the nvidia drivers are loaded. I have seen this issue with old Geforce 210 years ago?

A monitor i use is ASUS 27" 1440p 144Hz and i use display port cable i got with monitor. This monitor is the one which supports free sync and i am thinking that perhaps cable is incompatible with a card. Can someone suggest nvidia recommended display port cable and where to get it?

Thanks.

That's normal.  The ports on the GPU have a priority and DVI comes before DP.  The reason you get the second monitor in Windows is that the driver is kicking in to enable both.

No driver, no second or third display.

If i didn't have second monitor plugged in i do not get any signal until i am in Windows. It means it would be impossible for me to install Windows or do anything unless i am in Windows with loaded drivers. Perhaps i should be more clear about it...there is no signal from DP unless nvidia drivers are loaded.
This is ASUS 27" Monitor 1440p 144Hz meant to support AMD Free Sync. I really love the monitor and as far as gaming goes it works awesome with Nvidia 1080. Does eVga sells display port cables certified to work with Nvidia 1080/1070?

My DP on my EVGA Titan X SC works fine - only monitor currently Acer 4K 28 inch.

Are you using a certified DP cable ? (yes, it really does matter)

Is your Monitor set manually to the DP input or auto- scan ?

I use DP cable i got with monitor. I set manually but i also tried auto scan. This is a 2k monitor supporting AMD Free Sync so i am thinking that Nvidia card does not like this DP cable. Again, as soon as i load nvidia drivers in Windows everything works great but again if i reboot machine there is no signal until Windows and drivers load up. Can you tell me what DP cable you use or where i could order one which is certified for 1070/1080 cards?

    Thanks.

OP issue is when ONLY DP is used --- No display - black screen  -- till after Windows launches/ Nvidia driver loads

Dual monitors then used to see post and such.

If the OP is leaving the dvi cable plugged into the gpu and is just disconnecting the cable from the monitor it will still act the same way.

What is your video setting in BIOS?  Auto, PCI or onboard?

It sounds like your EDID for the second monitor is being read from file and the system continues to load it because it 'thinks' that second monitor is present and thus gives it priority.  Either that or their is an issue with the basic BIOS driver not functioning with it (obviously) until the Windows driver takes over.  Have you checked for an updated BIOS?

You may try to clear the cache for the BIOS by powering down the system and unplugging and then removing the CMOS battery to get the splash screen to work on that card.

    Clear BIOS

Load BIOS defaults (copy, photos with phone First )
    save
    reboot
enter BIOS and add your edits
    save
    reboot

Turn OFF fast boot & safe boot

I did clear bios, and loaded default settings (with old card in it) before putting 1080 in. An old card (AMD r390x) was also connected via DP cable. Anyway, after clearing bios and what not i shut down computer, removed r390x and installed 1080. Right away i did not get any signal and didn't even have second monitor plugged in. I always plug in second monitor after my video card is being properly initialized with DP cable (that's how i did with r390x before). I though a card is dead and then for fun of it I i plugged in second monitor and boom got picture there. So I installed Windows, installed drivers and a very moment i installed drives i got a signal on Monitor with DP cable. I will try to get different cable, but i am not going to dig any further into because system runs very stable and well. My assumption is that there is incompatibility issue between card and dp cable or card and monitor or possibly a bug in video card firmware. For whatever strange reason DP port is considered to be secondary and i think it is a bug in firmware. I might check few more options in BIOS itself to see anything PCIE and Primary Card related if any.

Are you using the same monitor as in my sig? I've been using it with the DP cable that came it and have no problems with any Maxwell or Pascal cards.

Yeah made for AMD supporting 1440p resolution. I think i found solution on youtube who had same problem i did. I simply have to unplug monitor and shut the power off on it for few minutes. Start everything again and signal is there. Will try that tonight.
