I wonder if they will change the purchase to the "5 minutes grace" in basket as I've seen requested. Wishful thinking :O

Meh, I would like to buy it, but I am not sure whether to buy it. If there won't be any WB, then it's pretty much useless for me.

Buy LN2 pots.. that is why it says "Built for the EXTREME Overclocker" not "Built for the casual gamer", lol.  Or you could get Universal blocks/Kraken G10

Some people like to buy the higher end cards due to their better quality components.

LN2 might be the way to go for an extreme overclock benchmark run, but it's useless for 24/7 gaming. I need the full WB for stable high clock "hardcore gaming" on low temps.

yes.. indeed.. which is why these are "Built for the extreme overclocker" not "Built for the casual gamer"  They perform best when under the control of extreme overclockers and meant to keep extreme overclockers from doing this:

All they do with the Classified is pre-install all of the above hardware so that "Extreme Overclockers" (LN2/Dice) Users don't have to.  They are guaranteed to perform any better on air or water.

P.S. I am not discouraging buying.   I am ENCOURAGING people to use them as designed.

Well, even if I'm not aiming for cracy extreme clocks the unlocked voltage of the Classy would do wonders to achieve those precious few more FPS considering I'll be gaming 1440p @ 144 hertz or 4K @ 60 FPS. And the true "extreme" EVGA card should be the Kingpin anyway.  So, yeah, I still would like that WB.

Re: GTX 980 TI Classified 2015/07/01 15:59:00 (permalink)
The K|ngp|n is a Classified with more mods.. hence 980ti Classified K|ngp|n... They are meant for those that don't use the extra added support of Vince himself. NVidia still locks the voltage on the Classified... O.o... even VINCE said they have to, because NVIDIA controls that, not EVGA.  So, you will have to use Modded bios to get full control, which would be possible on stock cards with the correct BIOS. The 980 Classified K|ngp|n didn't feature the word Classified on it.  But the K|ngp|n is still only a classified with more engineering mods. They are both meant for Extreme overclocking.  You will gain 4-5 fps getting this over an Hydro or Hybrid, so, the extra cost can be easily justified.

Hey Scarlet-Tech,
The 980 Ti Classified will be my first Classified card, and planning on putting a waterblock on it as soon as EK releases a Classified version.

However, from your post, does it mean that even water cooling isn't enough to get what I want from the Classified cards?
Would it be a "waste" in your opinion to just water cool it and not use "extreme cooling"?

Thanks for the insight!

No, it is NEVER a waste.  To get the best out of these, (I have 10 of them... only tried Dry ice once so far) you HAVE to go under extreme cooling.  That is what they are meant for.  You will get the same results, maybe a little better, with regular water cooling.  Some people will want more than they could possibly get out of any card, because it is a classified, so don't expect 1600mhz and you won't be disappointed.  Expect +150-200mhz for Benchmarking and +75-100 for everyday use, and you will NOT be disappointed.

Expect +200mhz for everyday use, and you will be thoroughly depressed.

I might be disappointed then.
Kind of hoping to hit mid 1500's under water.  Didn't even think about 1600mhz until you just said that.
haha

Thanks for the real info though!
Guess I'll see how disappointed I'll be after all this.

Looking forward to getting these!

And of course I can't buy more than one before they're out of stock. Nabbed one from newegg, wouldn't let me purchase multiple by the time I plug in my summer home address it's out of stock. Now I can play tag with notifications and watch Newegg like a mor'a'n non-stop.

Bleh.

the 980 is much higher clocked (almost 100mhz) higher than the 980ti Classified, and they were running around 1475-1500mhz for daily use without heat issues.  Expecting something clocked 100 mhz lower to do the same would be (more than likely) overextending the reach.

My 980 K|ngp|n overclocks to 1575mhz for benching, and it pushes farther than the 980 Classified for the most part, just to give you a general idea.

You may get 1500 for hard benching, maybe even 1550, but that won't be a daily thing.  There are users on the K|ngp|n forums saying they want a daily 1700mhz, and T|n, pretty much told hit to sit back and color for wanting too much.

1550 for benching wouldn't be too bad.  I might even get the benching bug, and try to compete against others.

Thanks again Scarlet-Tech!

What I'd like to know is if 14+3 power phases would only really be useful on LN2. Would you say 8+2 would be more than enough for "high but not extreme" overclocking on water?

I will not be purchasing one of these until it has been cleared up if there will be a waterblock available for these.  I would assume that there would have to be, but I need 100% confirmation.

I'm curious if it will be like the 780/780ti classy where the EK780 Classy block fit both cards.  In that case, there's already a block available from the 980 Classy... Guess we will see

Absolutely not. If the cards can't be used on air they shouldn't be sold with a air cooler.

Well I just notice that most people here have been only saying about using water for it. I was going to get two Kingpin editions before and then looked at all the comments about only using it for water and LN2, now I might get the Classified version.

Well this one has a higher Boost clock so you might get like a 1 FPS difference, the Hybrid will be cooler though, I am not sure how both will overclock because I have not seen a review from HeXus or Gur3d at the moment.

Just an FYI, I have two SC+ 980 Ti's and during benching they get HOT even with fans on 75-80%. I have a HAF X so airflow is not an issue.

The more you overclock, the hotter the cards will get. The classified cooler is the exact same as the SC+ cooler.

Stock voltages my cards run around 65-70 degrees C in my case during benching. With my overclock (1466 core/8000 memory) they both run 70-75+ degrees at 80% fan.

for $20 more though? Definitely get the classifieds unless you are dead set on hybrids.

I hope we see Classified vs Hybrid benchmarks. Should be pretty interesting which comes out on top and under what conditions (stock, OC'ed, under water, etc).

8+2 would be more than enough for Air and Water.  the voltage fluctuations that occur during extreme benching is what 14+3 is really good for.  With 14+3, they are trying to deliver extremely high clean voltage... you don't need that on water usually, because you aren't pushing that much voltage.
