Hello there! I received one gtx 980ti classified today. When i changed the thermal pad , i saw the vram chip is Samsung. My friends said to me "it isn't normal cause just Kingpin version mounts Samsung chip. " It's really?it's my first time with evga graphics card ..
EVGA recently changed to Samsung memory for the standard Classified. Lucky you!
I am waiting the cpu and i will try it :)

I finally liquid cooled my rig... max temp for my 980ti is 45-55c sometimes. but mostly 35-45c here is some shots of my system...   My MSI Afterburner and Asic Quality   and here 3d mark firestrike score turning off adaptive half refresh rate in nvidi control panel...

So I got my GTX 980 Ti Classified from Newegg last week and the card looks amazing! I got a 78.6% ASIC score with Samsung memory so I think i did get lucky there. Boosts to 1417MHz out of the box and drops down to 1405MHz when the card warms up. Playing with some overclock settings, ive been able to get a stable GPU +62 and MEM +500 with no extra voltage. Sticks around 1467MHz with OC and occasionally jumps to 1480MHz when cooler. The card will crash running heaven if i run no voltage increase with GPU increase of +70 or higher. Memory overclock will start getting white flashes around +650 with heaven. So im guessing that the limit for my card with stock voltage is around +65~ and +500 mem. Although im sure you could push it higher.. And adjusting voltage didnt do much either, The card only holds 1.212 volts with +25mV and doesn't increase further. Now for the bad, my Classified is making two types of noise under load, both are coming from the fan/heatsink i think. When the card is hot, and the fans are spinning at 60%, the card will make a high pitched whining noise. Im sure its from a loose fin because it only happens at 60% fan speed. 59% or 61% and the noise goes away. So not that bad IMO. Now the second type of noise my Classified is making is a very soft clicking noise at higher fan speeds. Sounds like its coming from the fan closer to the IO. Theres nothing obstructing the fans and there is clearance between the blades and the wires. But there is the constant soft clicking noise that increases and decreases with fan speed (around 40-70%). I just hope its not the fan bearing going bad because I intend to keep this card for awhile. So my dilemma is, should i request for an RMA and play the silicon lottery again, or should i just live with the minor noise that the cooling solution is making on the card and just enjoy life with my otherwise decent card?

BTW I had EVGA Cllassy as well until recently .ASIC was 82%, but again , the card could not keep up the 1500MHz OC on air. The cooler was very noisy.I have sold it and bought Gigabyte Xtreme .The cooler is way better , I am able to play at 1520/1530MHz at 77% - the chip has got the temperature 61-62C.
The loudness is much better than the noisy ACX. I think that EVGA has missed the ball this time .

Hello everyone, I just got this card yesterday and i really need your help please. I purchased this "classified" version over other versions such as "SC" "FTW" because it claims to have better overclock abilities. Well it really is not the case, at least not for my particular card. Maybe i got unlucky and received a less quality one but here is my example. Using EVGA precision X 16. Power level to 115%, temp to 91C, GPU clock to +64, memory clock to +450, voltage to +25. Tested on 3 games: World of Warcraft, Heroes of the Storm, and Black ops 3. All setting on high to ultra. Games are running fine for 40-60 minutes. Then screen freeze, driver crash. This happened to me 3 times in one night. Finally decided to turn it down to pre-overlock level and will test further today. I had the fan on aggressive mode so i get lower temperature, the noise doesn't bother me too much. Temperature was around 66-72C during gaming. It is very frustrating that i am not not able to overclocked it even at such a small incremental increase. I am wondering if i am doing anything wrong, or is it really that i have a less quality card? My spec is in the signature.

What is ur actual GPU clock speed when running a benchmark? Just saying +60 on the GPU core doesnt really mean much.
For example, i have a 85% ASIC 980 Ti Classified and i can barely go past +40 on the GPU core.... Why?? Because its stock clock is already boosting at 1430mhz.
So you gotta let us know what clock speed ur running at??

my ASIC is 72.9%. At pre-overlock level it's max out at 1404mhz. after 30 mintues of gaming it dropped down to 1391mhz.

Boy oh boy the silicon lottery is fun.
For reference my 980 Ti Classy runs at the following specs:
Cooling: Custom loop with EK 780 block, CLU TIM, 140mm + 280mm of radiator (shared with CPU), 2x 3k rpm Noctua NF-A14 Industrial, 1x 2k RPM Noctua NF-A14 Industrial, 2x Swiftech Helix 2k RPM.
ASIC: 73%
Memory: SK Hynix
Base:
Base Clocks: 1392-1418Mhz (usually rests at 1404) (memory is stock
Temps under load: 35-42c (~18c ambient, fans at ~1000rpm)
Voltage: Stock (DMM says says 1.118-1.228)
OC (100% all games stable... IE I leave the game on for 24hrs)
Clocks: 1520Mhz core and 8100Mhz memory (no dips)
Temps: Average 40-45c (~18c ambient, fan curve set to water temp 30-40c = 0-100% fan speed) (CPU overclock can push things to 50c)
Voltage: Max voltage in AB (DMM reads 1.225-1.23)
OC (FS)
Clocks: 1550Mhz core, 8200Mhz memory (no dips)
Temp: 30-35c (~18c, fans set to 100%)
Voltage: Set via 3rd party AB setting (1.26 via DMM)
OC (Valley)
Clocks 1590Mhz core, 8200Mhz memory (no dips... but I do get a crash about every 10 runs)
Temp: 30-37c (~18c, fans set to 100%)
Voltage: Set via 3rd party AB setting (1.28 via DMM)
That is the best I can manage. I don't remember my exact clocks on air but they were the same for stock, a little less for game stable (-10Mhz), and a lot less (-20-60Mhz) for benching. Now, I know for a fact that when my Valley runs were stable the ambient was lower (closer to 10c) and thus my core was cooler (30c).
IMO for the next Classy/KPE EVGA should bin as many cards as they can get their hands on and make an AIO cooler for both cards. The Classy especially is just not worth it on air.

First, back off the memory.. +450 right out of the box? Slow down a lot. Find your core overclock first (meaning, leave memory sitting at zero). Then, after you find your stable core, start working on your memory overclock. Just because "everyone else gets +400 on the memory" doesn't mean anything. You need to take your time finding the overclock. You could be overheating your memory over time trying to push it too far on air. Memory doesn't have temp controls built in, only the core does. A lot of people getting great overclocks are on watercooling where the memory never warms up that much. Slow down, and stop shooting for the moon.

+1 Did you add the extra two 120 fans to the top of your case ? You need great airflow to remove the heat that will build up inside of the case. What speed are you running your case fans ? What is the room (ambient) temp & what is the temp inside the case before you crash ? Does your MB support PCIe 3.0 ?

Hey guys, after messing around a little bit i am able to overclock the core clock to +60, memory clock to +450, while keeping the temperature around 60C. This is the most stable state i can get to without any problem. I try to overclock the core clock to +70 and the game/driver has crashed several times so i back down to +60. I achieved this by boosting voltage to +50.Set the GPU fan to run at 80% speed at 60C. Remove one side of my case for more airflow. I am happy with this result considering i am just using air cooling. Maybe in the future when i upgrade my mobo and CPU i will try to get water cooling then i can push the voltage even higher and try higher clocks. Thanks for all your help.
