EVGA X299 Micro ATX 2

The X299 MICRO ATX 2 is a reimagined mATX board designed to support the power, performance, and cooling necessary to power Intel's most powerful i9 CPU for the X299 Chipset. With a 14 Phase power design, a thick VRM heatsink/fan, two 8 pin EPS power connectors, an additional 6 pin PCIe power connector, and external BCLK, this motherboard was born for the enthusiast desiring maximum power in a small form factor. The X299 MICRO ATX 2supports current storage standards, including M.2 NVMe, Intel Optane, Intel VROC and SATA 6Gb/s to give you a blazing fast access to your data, while Intel Dual-Band WIFI/BT and an Intel i219V Gigabit NIC Keeps you connected. If you need a small motherboard capable of pure performance, the X299 MICRO ATX 2 strikes the perfect balance for features and power.

Nice! I might go with this over the Dark. Are there any features the Dark brings to the table over the Micro 2 aside from Quad SLI?

Nice! I might go with this over the Dark. Are there any features the Dark brings to the table over the Micro 2 aside from Quad SLI?

Other than the ridiculous amount of power and performance the Dark has, the Micro ATX 2 generally falls into being a little bit of a powerhouse of its own, along with some more mobile-friendly features, such as the new WiFi/BT module.  It's also currently the only other motherboard that can use the latest GUI BIOS (available on the dowload page).  One other major distinction is that the Micro ATX 2 has RGB headers, which can be controlled by ELEET.

The Dark does have better M.2 support, more SATA ports, better monitoring, and significantly more overclocking options than any other EVGA X299 motherboard, however.  Other than Quad-SLI, it also has more PCIe slots available for devices other than SLI.  Similarly, there are more VROC options on the Dark, although the X299 Micro ATX 2 supports VROC, as well.  Lastly, the Dark supports Optane directly through one of the M.2 slots, while the Micro ATX 2 would require you to find a PCIe adapter for Optane.

One unique feature that the Micro ATX 2 has that no other EVGA motherboard currently shares is the ability to flash the BIOS without a CPU.

This small EVGA X299 Micro 2 is example how mATX motherboard should be build.
When new chipset show up and brands show up with low end mATX boards people decide to stay with ATX.

For this board I would use Koolance CPU-400I and i9-7900X.

GPU in first PCI-E and powerfull Sound Blaster ZxR in small slot.

When you remove VRM heatsink below him is paradise.
