I just upgraded from two EVGA GTX 970 SC to an EVGA GTX 1070 FTW. Whenever I boot my PC, I now get the following error message as soon as the BIOS screen loads:
"PXE-E01 PCI Vendor and device ID's Don't Match"
The bios screen then proceeds to the normal BIOS and the PC boots normally.
I did a google search and found other instances of this error. There is one listed on the ASUS ROG forum as well.
I know my MOBO is 4 years old, but it worked fine with the GTX 970 SLI configuration I had
The BIOS is the last one ASUS did for that MOBO (1703 dated 10/24/2012)
My setup is faster than a lot of PC's out there (AMD Bulldozer OC'd to 4.8 MHz) so I don't need a new PC.
My guess is that since the GTX 970 works fine, there is some issue with the BIOS on the GTX 1070... I have seen posts with the same issue on the GTX 1080 as well.
The card seems to be working normally, but it's disconcerting to see a BIOS error every time I boot up.
Anyone else run into this?

Can we see a GPU-Z screenshot of the card?

This happened at least one other time to a user here where EVGA said that they needed to replace the card.

Yes... I did some additional searching on the forum and found that string as well... My card has the same issue... the subvendor box in GPUZ does NOT have the EVGA ID in it..see below:

I tried to look on the website of ASUS and found only this: http://www.asus.com/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/CROSSHAIR_V_FORMULAZ/HelpDesk_Download/

There is a BIOs update from last year and you need to make sure you have that provided that is the correct download page for your MB. Based on the error it sounds like a BIOs issue with the motherboard. However feel free to contact EVGA tech support to see if what I have told you is correct.

Here is that other thread with the same error message for anyone who is searching:
    http://forums.evga.com/EV...ows-card-m2490284.aspx

It is interesting that the person who started that thread also has a Asus Crosshair V Formula motherboard.  EVGA offered to replace that users video card because they couldn't come up with a different solution.  That user never provided a conclusion as to whether the problem was resolved.

Two other users in that thread also have the same error message but neither of them said which motherboard they own.

The ASUS ROG link you show is for a different motherboard... the Crosshair V Formula Z. I have the older mobo...the ASUS Crosshair V Formula.
I have the most recent BIOS... 1703...
Here is the link for my MOBO. http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/CROSSHAIR_V_FORMULA/HelpDesk_Download/

BUT... my question is...Should the "Device ID Subvendor" box on GPUZ show the EVGA ID instead of "Unidentified "0000"?

Wouldn't that cause the problem that shows up in the BIOS boot screen??
I mean...the BIOS error actually says the Vendor ID and the Device ID's don't match???
I'm not the only one with this issue evidently and I'm pretty savvy..been building PC's for a lot of years...
I checked my EVGA profile of 21 products.... my first EVGA card was a GeForce 6800 I bought in 2004

Yes, the Subvendor box should say "EVGA (3842)".

Normally I would say (and have said) that the issue is with a corrupted GPU BIOS.  But, now that there are two people online with the same exact rare problem with the same exact motherboard, I have to stop and wonder.

It could be a motherboard issue caused by some very strange freak incompatibility or glitch which causes it to incorrectly read the NVIDIA 10 series PCI IDs properly.

For whatever it is worth, I have a laptop which I upgraded the NVIDIA video card to a known incompatible newer NVIDIA video card knowing ahead of time that the subvendor would be read as 0000 instead of 1558 by the laptop's motherboard BIOS.  In my case, it doesn't throw any error messages.  I just have to modify my NVIDIA driver INF file manually every time I want to install a newer driver (otherwise it says no compatible hardware found) and then install the modified driver with driver signature enforcement disabled.

So, moral of the story, it is possible that the motherboard for some reason decides that it wants to reset the subvendor ID to 0000 because of some detected incompatibility, but it seems unlikely at first and seems to be quite rare.  But, it has started to seem more likely that this is the case now that there have been two of you with the same motherboard with the same error.

You'll want to contact support and see if they can help you fix that before doing an RMA.

    That's firmware for sure.

Two in a row with the same motherboard.  I am not sure.  It's starting to sound like the motherboard.

Pretty popular board, I think that is coincidence. I'm putting my chips on GPU firmware.

Only 2 options I see to continue with: test in a different system or rma.

I'd rma unless evga has a way to reflash the vbios on the 1070.

OK...so I verified with EVGA that the "PXE-E01 PCI Vendor and device ID's Don't Match" error message is valid for some AMD motherboards and Nvidia is working on the issue.
At some point, they will issue a BIOS update for the 1070 and 1080 cards.
so... not wanting to wait... I RMA'd my GTX 1070 FTW and bought an EVGA GTX 980Ti FTW instead...
The 980Ti works fine.. no errors...the 980Ti's are on sale now as well.
Happy with my 980 and at some point I can step up to a 1080...WHEN they become available and the issue is resolved.

I have same Mobo Formula not the Z and the same problem with  the 1070 FTW (08G-P4-6276-KR).  I went on techpowerup.com but can only find deviceIDs for the Founders:

    GPU Device Id: 0x10DE 0x1B81
    Version: 86.04.1E.00.70

The 1070 FTW is running the same Bios.  Does anyone know 1) the correct device ID and 2) know if I can edit the bios to reflect it?  Looks likes is hex which I don't have xp with.

P.S.  There is another massive post about this same issue on all different 10x0 cards and on all different Mobos.  The card works fine I just can't use Precision X to change the LEDs

Contact EVGA support. I have an AMD motherboard with a 1070 FTW and had the same issues as mentioned above. Today ( Aug 31, 2016) they emailed me a fixed bios update for both master and slave that fixed my issues of having no Kboost in Precision X and also not displaying the subvendor in Tech GPUz.

This is why I stick with EVGA for many products.

Oh cool... if there is a BIOS fix, I can request my step up now.
I returned my 1070FTW and bought a 980Ti instead figuring when they fixed the problem with a BIOS update, I could step-up to a 1080.
