What is showing under your card for a "EVGA Step-Up Program" My Products
Do you have a Single 8-Pin PCIe Power Connector or 2 Each 6-Pin PCIe Power Connectors?
Is their not room in your case for a 2 Slot Card?

The moboard is a single slot. The card doesn't require additional power connection. I do have an evga 500W power supply I can install.

Okay... couple of things. Whoever told you a GT 740 was a 'high end card' was blowing smoke. It's at best, the top of the low end of two generations ago... As as far as replacement, that is up to you. EVGA isn't going to replace your GPU. If you're not satisfied with the performance, you'll need to get a refund from your retailer.  What was being asked, about a '2 slot card' was if a GPU that was two slots wide would fit in your case. In other words, something the size of of a GTX 1080 for example. A full sized GPU. It would still only need a single PCIe slot to install but would vastly increase your choices. Also if you have a PSU with PCIe power cables that would also expand your choices. If you're looking for something around 60 FPS at 1080p with relatively high settings, I wouldn't go lower that a GTX 960.

Ooohhh!...well, learning something new. Yes, there is plenty of room in the case even with the new psu. The psu has multiple PCIe connectors to spare. I was looking at the GTX 1050 Ti in the step up program. With my trade in, it puts the price in the comfortable zone. What do you think about it's performance?

More or less shader count then memory amount within the same architecture. Bottom line is the performance versus price.  We can't really tell you how much to spend.  Though, with the way games are going, I wouldn't go with less than 4GB VRAM. For 1080p gaming with decent performance on a budget, the 1050Ti isn't a bad choice.

I have an EVGA GTX 950 FTW and it works great for me. I'm able to get high settings @ 60fps on most games without too many FPS drops.

It's about the same tier as your card (900's didn't have an x50 ti, which is a bit higher), but a generation older. On the other hand my monitor's at a little bit lower resolution at 1440 x 900.

My only issue is it having 2 GB VRAM, which is a little tight. I would say 4 GB, which the 1050 ti has, is recommended.

Thank all of you for your assistance and patience with the noob q's. I've decided to try the 1050 ti. I'm starting the step up on it and I'll consider this thread closed.

Sincerely,
not quite so noobish (anymore) on gpu's
