I thought it was a GT9600, but under the 900 series, I see only GTX9600's, 9800's, etc. Is it because my graphics card has been dropped (it's 8 years old and came with my Asus computer) or has it been renamed. Below are my Speccy ...um, Specs..... and if I may ask a question what is a good upgrade for the 9600 for under $150.00?

As best I can tell as well, evga does not list that generation (9-series). You can see it here on the nvidia site:
    http://www.geforce.com/ha...p-gpus/geforce-9600-gt
In terms of buying a new card -- I'd suggest waiting a month or two. There are upcoming, lower $ releases from AMD (e.g. RX470 could be around the $150 price point) and the upcoming 1000 series releases from nvidia (notionally should be a gtx1050 at some point). Once this new generation of cards become available, I'd suspect you can also find some good deals on the currently available generation of gtx 900 cards, which are quite capable. Prices have yet to drop on these, but undoubtedly will, so it's not worth buying them right now.

The newer 900 and 1000 series cards from Nvidia require a UEFI compatible motherboard to run, if I remember correctly.

So a really old board that came with a GT9600 probably won't work.

Maybe AMD doesn't have the same requirements? I know that with Nvidia, the 600 (or was it 700) series was the last to support fully legacy motherboards.

The 750ti 2gb would be a great upgrade, and right now, Amazon has them for 109.99. You really can't best that price.

The 760 supported both, if I am not mistaken. The 750ti (First Maxwell) was uefi only, so it wouldn't be a good upgrade unless your motherboard has a recent bios update.

in terms of amd, some 300 series have (and some don't have) Legacy (non-UEFI) BIOS support.
in general, the whole 'will it work on a non-UEFI mobo' is confusing since there's contradictory info out there. the safest thing i suppose is to buy something you *know* will work.
