Curious when EVGA will provide a BIOS update for Z690/Z790, even if BETA to support next gen Intel CPUs.

I wouldn't be surprised if the answer is never.

They sold the product with the compatibility advertised, the company is winding down, and they may feel like they have no requirement to provide enhanced compatibility more than originally advertised.

As I said in another thread, ask EVGA directly.
https://www.evga.com/about/contactus/

EVGA is winding down? Like going out of business? Was this stated anywhere? Either way, I'll wait for an official answer from EVGA. One of their mods can surely get an answer from the BIOS team or company and provide it here. It's really a simple answer. Yes its coming, or no it will never come. Either way the community deserves to know. If it's the later, consumers need to be warned to steer clear of any EVGA motherboards still on the shelf. Not providing BIOS support for the entire lifespan of a sockets life cycle is not right. No matter if it provides what was originally advertised or not. Consumers expect when they purchase a motherboard/platform that the OEM will provide all BIOS updates and support that every other OEM is providing. That isn't some sort of new reasonable expectation.

EVGA is winding down.  You need to stick your head in the sand to not notice it.

EVGA doesn't make video cards any more.  EVGA hasn't announced any new products other than a power supply with a worryingly short warranty which they originally teased more than a year ago.  EVGA has stopped releasing software updates.  EVGA has stopped answering customers who have questions or complaints about their peripheral products.  EVGA has not released any firmware updates to fix documented product faults.  EVGA has laid off a lot of their overseas team.  EVGA's BIOS team have been let go.  Kingpin was let go.  All the EVGA loyalty programs were ended.  There is nothing left.

The person who made this thread doesn't even work for EVGA any more.  Try to find anyone who works for EVGA say anything helpful on this forum recently.  Other than an EU EVGA employee blaming a customer for not shipping via a specific carrier, I can't think of anything recently.

When a potential customer posts here saying that they want to buy a product, but want to verify it supports some feature first, and EVGA provides no reply, what does that tell you?  This forum is dead to EVGA, because EVGA is dead.  It has no vision.  It has no future.

Talon2020
Either way, I'll wait for an official answer from EVGA.

Agreed.  That's why you should ask EVGA.  I provided a link.  This is a user-to-user forum.  EVGA only talks openly here about stuff they want to talk about.  Everything else gets the silent treatment.

One of their mods can surely get an answer from the BIOS team or company and provide it here.

Not likely.  It would be unprecedented.

Damn sounds like EVGA is riding into the sunset. I finally joined the EVGA train with the 3090ti and Z690 MB. I missed the glory days and looks like got in just in time to watch them crash and burn. :(

Would you trust that it's optimized though? Support is nothing without proper testing.

I just updated the bios of my Classy from 1.15 to 2.12.

I loaded "optimized defaults" before, and made the procedure via bios. After the update bios reported a checksum error - something like different hardware detected. I saved with optimized defaults (again), booted into Windows and rebootet into bios again to set my adjustments. Anything works but is there an explanation for that behaviour?

Thank you for you support!

Edit: My mouse from Razer was (re)installed in Windows after the bios-update. Initially I had a Fnatic.

It just turns off now. The whole system stops. I have this platform since october 2022 and never had a problem like this. Is there a way to revert the update from 2.12 to 1.15?

see page 50 of the manual:

"First Boot

BIOS Update
When you power on the system for the first time (or after a BIOS update/reset) it may take a little longer than expected, and follow with a warning message on the screen reading “BIOS checksum error”. This is completely normal."

same thing as ^^ after new bios/optimal defaults i think.

if the other worked somewhat OK; then u should have flipped the BIOS selector switch (to like position 2) before updating to a new one and kept the other on like BIOS Switch position 1.

and note: the new BIOS requires setting all settings u way us prefer. in other words, u can't use a backup profile from another version. u were absolutely correct doing the Optimal Default thing. be sure some BIOS setting isn't causing the crashes.

Edit 1: Page 12 of manual has "28. BIOS Selector Switch".
Switch to position 2 or 3. They should both have v1.03 on them. then update it to ur desired version.

I made a photo with my handy from the change of settings. I just made the mistake to write the 2.12 over the 1.15. I never had a problem like that.

Edit: I switch to another bios... let's see which one EVGA initally installed.

Right, I'm on 1.03. This may sound naive... but I can't reset the 2.12 to 1.15 or install 2.12 again on 2.12?

I just read "Flashing the BIOS" from the manual... incl. the checksum error, I did anything right. I just wonder why it turns off by itself.

Again, thank you!

I guess ur using v.103, on Switch position 2.

First... get it working perfectly with all only optimal Defaults in current position (2, right?). Meaning stable, stable, stable. i have only used v1.03. i luv it. Test Booting, Rebooting, Shutting down completely for a full minuet of more and it starts just fine. Test Programs and Games. Be sure all is OK with PC on Optimal Defaults and confirm no Hardware was causing the recent probs u have had.

Second... do the same on Switch position 3.

Third... get Switch position 1's BIOS back to v1.15; by booting into BIOS Switch 2 (or switch 3's BIOS) and then PM another member or call support, or wait until someone jumps in and confirms the following is the right protocol to follow:
while in one of ur two functioning BIOS; flip the BIOS switch to the messed up one's position  (Switch 1, right?). And then update to v.1.15 while in BIOS said functioning BIOS (current).

Thank you very much for your help! I'll stay with 1.03. I also read something about an sleep mode in BIOS. Maybe this caused the issue.

and TY for helping me keep up on it; just in case i need to implement somewat of the same. recently i had a scare during a multiple brown-out scenario. (Power in my neighborhood was lost and returned several times in less than 90 seconds.)

Never use sleep mode of any kind anytime on an expensive Gaming PC.

oh, and only prob i ever had with EVGA's Classified z690 and v1.03 BIOS (and i got one of the 1st z690 they ever sold), was that the SPD Tab in CPU-Z failed to populate upon accessing it more than once; and i had to restart for it to populate. But now CPU-Z v2.06 works perfectly.

Thank you! I called EVGA - a hearty thanks to the one I talked too! I made a downgrade from 2.12 to 2.09. It looks like it worked. I think in my case, the memory caused the freeze of the OS.

NP.
and TY for helping me keep up on it; just in case i need to implement somewat of the same. recently i had a scare during a multiple brown-out scenario. (Power in my neighborhood was lost and returned several times in less than 90 seconds.)

Never use sleep mode of any kind anytime on an expensive Gaming PC.

I've been using what was called a "Beta BIOS" for quite some time...so was thinking about updating my BIOS to the latest version...but after reading this thread...and with what's going on with EVGA, I feel inclined to just leave "well enough" alone.  The system is working perfectly well at this time anyway.

Any benefits to leaving it like it is........or for going ahead with the update?

Generally, if it isn't broke, don't worry about it. Sometimes there are new features that you want with an update, but I think with the 12700k you should be fine with what you have as far as I know.

Okay, thanks Bobaganoosh.  And....again...thanks for all the help you gave back when I first put this system together.

I've been following what's happening with EVGA and it saddens me...because I felt they had such great products, but now I'm a bit worried that they seem to be going out, if I end up with an issue with my components. I will just have to hope nothing bad happens.

BIOS Updates for E699 DARK K|NGP|N (2.13) / E698 Classified (2.12)
  • Fixes Non-K CPU can't boot into OS with BCLK OC.   (THIS)
  • Fixes AMD EXPO module detection issue.
  • Adds DDR5 24GB module support
  • Fixes RTX 4090 driver compatibility issue.

applies with the Classified Z690 too?
I want to overclock a non K 12400 for fun, last time I tried (first stock bios) I had that problem

I'm back to 1.15.

I up- and downgraded the BIOS, one switch, of my Classified several times to stay with a more current version of it. The flash worked but not the stability.

My system started to freeze with 2.12 and also with 2.09 - recommended by customer support, after removing my GPU and RAM for cleaning. I checked my CPU with an official support and -test software. I also tested my GPU several times, even overclocked, with 3D Mark and my RAM, on default with a full run of MemTest86. Nothing. In terms of software, anything is up-to-date.

I also called EVGA's customer support (different numbers) this week in Europe, in my case Germany but no one answered on the phone. There was not even an announcement.

Did u used the stock XMP profile with the 2.12 bios? I have 24 hours without any crash since my bios update
