An Elegant Motherboard For A More Civilized AgeThe DARK rises again. Not content to merely shatter records and competition in the consumer market, the EVGA SR-3 DARK merges two extreme performance lines of EVGA motherboards to bring balance to the force with exceptional performance and engineering. Featuring the Intel® C622 chipset, hexa-channel memory support, 23 phase power design, 16-layer PCB, dual-10GbE LAN ports, a waterblock to passively or actively cool the DARK’s VRM, and so much more, this board is packed with everything and is still compact enough to fit in a full E-ATX form factor. Power EVGA continues its revolutionary design by using right-angle power connectors to improve airflow and cable management. Connect up to four 8-pin EPS connectors to provide maximum power to your Intel XEON® W-3175X CPU! CoolingThe SR-3 DARK features a pre-installed waterblock to provide maximum cooling to the chipset and VRM of the motherboard. No watercooling? No problem. The SR-3 DARK will still provide sufficient cooling for all standard uses of the motherboard. With the EVGA SR-3 DARK, you don't need to see its identification to know that the next evolution of the X299 and Z390 DARK motherboards features the latest improvements for performance and enthusiast needs: - Up to 192GB of 4000MHz+ (OC) Hexa-Channel RAM on Intel Xeon® W-3175X, Cascade Lake-SP, and Skylake-SP Processors.
- Right-Angle connectors/headers for cable-management includes the 24-pin power, all 8-pin CPU power, Fan, Probe-It, and USB 3.1 Gen1 headers
- 2x M.2 Key-M 110mm Slots
- 10x USB 3.1 G1 / USB 3.1 G2 1x Type-A/1x Type-C
- 2x U.2 NVMe Ports
- 2x Intel® 10GbE ports

We only had a limited number of samples available to test, due to availability from Intel. Most of them are Cascade Lake-SP processors, but the board also works with Skylake-SP processors, as well. Here's the CPU list from the manual:

Only $ 1799.99, ouch!!!! For that kind of money you might as well pony up for the XEON W-3175X!

Maybe... I would not be so fast to write off Intel. Sure the stats dont look good, but there is certainly a lot more to hardware than just performance numbers at price.

EVGATech_LeeM mentioned the existence of a Manual for the SR-3 Dark. Can you make it available, even if it is a preliminary? I'd like to start planning my build and having the manual is always a great aid. -Arnold P.S. My SR-2 is still up and running and in active use... I was hoping for a worthy replacement. True, no argument from me on that one. However dont under estimate the power of brand loyalty from both end users and 3rd party companies. Also the number of people that need a 64 core CPU is very small, even in the enterprise world... Intel and AMD are in a nuclear arms race of sorts and its just as irrelevant as the actual nuclear arms race.

It's on the to-do list for today. Programming just hasn't gotten there yet. Edit: Looks like it's on the manuals page now.

Seems the highest end keeps getting farther out of my price range, still, it's a nice thing to look at anyway.

I guess it being cheaper was just a rumour after all. If Intel can't make another batch of these CPUs then the board is not too useful unfortunately.

It looks very nice but the pricing is a huge letdown. I don't see anyone would buy this platform now over the new AMD parts and then again not many would get this motherboard due to that. Intel needs to reduce the price of the W-3175X to $2000 or less and maybe this mobo should be priced a little bit over $1000. That being said, just got a second hand Dominus Extreme and the W-3175X which was brand new but opened. :) Not really that impressed with the CPU or platform so far; no solder so runs really hot, high power consumption, same (or worse) OC as my 7980XE...

Why are people gripping about the price? It's completely inline with the ASUS and Gigabyte options for the setup. It's a halo product, it's not for poors. You're talking just shy of 5k for CPU plus board. The entire platform is stupid and insane and does not make logical sense at all, it's there cause it's cool and fun, no other reason. The platform also gets clobbered by threadripper. The only people who need that highcore count aren't going to be buying a board like this anyways, they'll buy some supermicro board and load it up with ECC. It's cool and fun though.

Many ways to Justify Could be a want - Halo Product or OC possibilities Could be an actual business use as this is directed towards Workstation computing Any use would require that you can afford to spend over $6000 for a top end MB & W-3175X CPU with some RAM + all the other "little things" like GPUs, PSU(s), SSD(s) & cooling - all - Adding to the tab EVGA SR-3 DARK INTEL 3175X smash 20,000 3dmark Timespy Extreme - Kingpin getting started

That is exactly why people are saying the price is too high. The price of this board should be no higher than $850.

Intel's price is to high completely. For an intel product this is priced correctly for what it is. Then again buying anything with this highcore count and overclocking it and not using ECC RAM is also sort of silly for the workloads you'd want it for. Sort of odd. You get it because it's cool, and for cool it's price is fair. That intels product line is stupid and this is nuts doesn't mean it's not priced right.

if you've got 2k for a board for this (average) and the 3k for the CPU (average) factor in u.2 real SSDs and a good bit of RAM the RAID card is not an issue. And onboard RAID blows anyways. Always has, always will. Ditto that nobody who will "game" on a board like this is going to use the onboard audio, it's well past the price point where soundcards or external DACs come into play. If anybody is going to be sane and actually "use" this platform rather than brag here's what you want , won't OC but you shouldn't OC it but has LRIMM support. And hardware raid cards are less than a 2080ti, let a lone a titan, it's not that bad for expense.

Just Kidding, you are right ! but i meant to save more lanes, more air space for 3-4 way SLI and sound card. I always use Soundblaster sound card but maybe this time will switch to new NU audio because it has sound light syncing very nice

save lanes on a xeon? sorta defeating the point! The entire point of the platform is massive raid configurations over u.2 or PCIE cards. and you mean NVLINK now, not SLI and SLI won't scale past two cards and most games won't use it. the platform at it is means quadro, tesla, raid cards. As someone that manages SANS among other things for a living I get it.

I think this board is just further proof that Intel and it's partners like EVGA have lost it. This should be a Threadripper board, period. The fact that EVGA still refuses to have AMD hardware is to the point of idiocy. It's hard to believe that EVGA is the best, when they refuse to budge and support the actual best processors.
