With the BIOS update, it will also support Ivy processors.

I wouldn't risk that, I heard of problems with ivy chips on the p67/z68 boards even with the latest bios Notice on my link evga only has ivy bridge listed to Z77/Z75

It overclocks fine, I have my 2600K at a mild 4Ghz on my Z68 SLI but could go higher if I wanted. just be sure to read this guide here: http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=1033200

If you would like to run a IvyBridge CPU I can confirm with the R22 BIOS these CPUs are supported: Just make sure to flash to the R22 with your current CPU before install an IvyBridge. The latest BIOS revision can be seen here: http://www.evga.com/support/download/. - Ivy Bridge
- Core i7 3770K - 3.50 GHz
- Core i7 3770 – 3.40 GHz
- Core i5 3570K - 3.40 GHz
- Core i5 3550 - 3.30 GHz
- Core i5 3450 - 3.10 GHz
- Core i7 3770T - 2.50 GHz
- Core i7 3770S - 3.10 GHz

^^^ and thats why I only posted the sandy bridge list, You would need one to update the bios on the board anyway though he could have used his i3 chip to do that, didn't think about that.

True - but I think it's more of a BIOS thing. Some people are having great luck - others, not so much. Heck - I'm still on the A05 for my Z68 FTW and running rock solid at 4.5. The R21 and R22 versions didn't solve the one minor issue I have. Either way - to the OP - running a 2500k is still a great setup. Stupid easy to OC and a pretty solid workhorse of a CPU.

as i am getting the CPU new i have been looking at z77 boards do you think there would be a difference in performance going from z68 to z77. if its only one or two FPS in games then al stick with the z68. i am getting a second GTX-660 so a z77 board would be £150 minimum and dont want to pay £150 for no gains.

If you are just talking about the boards - no, I don't think you'd see significant gains between the Z68 and Z77. Even going from the SB to IB processors, there are peformance gains, but for everyday applications - not by leaps and bounds. I'd say, don't spend the extra money - but that's just my opinion.

SB to IB was a tick not a tock so there should not be any real gains that way SB chips did not drop in price. intell do tick tock, on the tick they did SB 32nm Process to IB 22nm Process. the tock was IB to haswell but ppl are reporting no gains with buying 1150 board so am sticking with SB for now on you input i think i will stay with the z68 too.

Yep you will be fine on z68 with a 2500K SB, they are still great performers today especially when overclocked.
