So since EVGA decided to be cheap on their IO shield, I was wondering what others were doing about it. Are you guys replacing them, modifying them, or simply using them? I have one and its just a piece of unpainted aluminium with no padding. I looked at my x58 and x79 classified and they are both at least black padded. This is pretty disappointing necessary item for a computer.

While it is thin and no shielding like on the X79 Dark Motherboard the one that comes with the X99 does its job and I have no complaint.

It is still an eyesore if your doing a build. My original intent was just spray paint it black and call it good, but people are more inventive so thought i'd ask.

I've said in a similar post that EVGA should have included one in the box but at the very least offer the "upgraded" one for sale.

Just like how you can buy a backplate for your graphics card... you don't really need one... but it sure looks nice.

I think Evga should make a nicer IO shield people can buy if they want to.

I find the IO shield a little dissapointing myself, and would buy a better one If they made one.

How often do you really look at the back of your computer, it is an I/O Shield Not a Painting of the Mona Lisa.
It is not that much different from the plate that you mount the motherboard to.
About Painting it Black this may take the grounding away and cause shielding problems.
If you want to paint it I would only pant the side facing out.
If you hate the I/O Back Plate so much then why did you even buy the Motherboard to begin with?
It is like you really love the front of a new car and really hate the back end of this car would you still buy the car.

And like a Black Plate for a Graphics Card who sales I/O Shields for a Motherboard, No One Does.

If you are sponsored and you are required to have photo's taken so the sponsor can you use them for advertisement. Or simply you want your computer to look good and have a finished look. Also the padding on the inside of the I/O is used to protect the I/O from being bent or scratching.

I don't know what case you use, but a lot of cases in the back are now painted black. A bright silver is not similar to black.

I would paint just the outside edge, and I don't think it actually grounds anything. It's a I/O shield to protect the mobo from damage/dust, not electric.

I bought the motherboard, because I like the motherboard. Would you buy a GTX 720 because it looked cool, over a GTX 780 that was reference?

Back plates for GPU's are sold all the time... EVGA has them for sale on their site, so does ASUS, or look EK too, oh and many aftermarket part makers.

"who sales I/O Motherboard Back Plates, No One Does." Yes for GPU's they do make back plates as I stated above.

Lucky you if you have a sponsor and they paid you to build your computer, I never really looked a doing this so all my computers were built* by me and for me so I am the only one who really cares what it looks like.
Your  show no photo of you rig so I really can't say whether or not how your computer looks on the back side.

Did you Paint your I/O Shield or I/O Back Plate.

Maybe EVGA will add a really nice custom I/O Shield on their next motherboard release, so if we see a jump in the price this could be the cause of it.

The current computer is still being done up, the sponsor has made something new for watercooling. It is really inventive and I really think It is a huge deal for custom water coolers. Right now some of the parts of water cooling are pretty restricted on what you can do with them and are a copy paste of each other with some new flair added. This is something that gets rid of that problem, and just really lets you open up more availability for your imagination. I want to say more, but I shouldn't. When they allow me to I will be posting new about it in Computer Industry News section. I will say this, it gave me a headache for about a week figuring out what to do with it, not because it was difficult, there was just so many options.

Replacement ones yes sometimes your can get them but not custom. And only two from how many motherboards are out.
I spent a long time looking for I/O Shields and even the OEM does not sale them.
Now with your links above what are they for?
Can you give me a link to a Z77 FTW I/O or a X99 Classified I/O Shield No

And what i mean is... if Evga sells IO shields for some motherboards, and also make back-plates for graphics cards.
Then it should be possible to make an updated IO shield for X99 too.

That is all it says on the IO shields i linked, it doesn't say what motherboard they belong to.

After looking them up, the IO shields i linked belongs to:

    X79 SLI (E775)
    X79 FTW (E777)
