As he typically doesn’t waste time on the vrm for his motherboard, it’s probably part of the final design.

It would be interesting to have the db of those fans... i'm a little concerned that it could end being noisy. Cooling the VRM with a monoblock seems like a better idea

Not everyone wants water cooling, and like he said in the video, it doesn’t take a lot of air to keep them cool, but they do require air flow, so it will probably be nice and quiet

Nice to see them overclocking on the dark. It really looks good but I wish we would see EVGA do a white motherboard also.

lol no ln2 for me . out of my rang but going to try subzero this time on x299. I think I would like to see if I could get 5 to 5.2 or so out off my 7980xe and the dark in LD - V10 case. like to make it a 24/7 setup at that. wont have cpu at -110 but every thing I have found so far say's -10 to +10 . that would be a drop off 80c that should I hope let me push cpu harder with out killing it or the board.it might not work out the way I want it to , but keep me doing something till next big MB comes out

EVGA X299 Dark is nicest EVGA Motherboard EVER.
Definitely. Have different I/O Port shield than other motherboards.
I like fans on motherboard if they could improve situation.
I would search medals days and night in Scavange Hunt for her,
but they offered only X99 and Z270 and I didn't had inspiration to search.

    This board DEFINITELY worth waiting.
If overclocking CPU is simple on this board and because price of 650$ of RVIE she could become one of most wanted motherboards among enthusiasts.
Bad because I didn't find i7-7820X ES, now I would definitely wait X299 Dark when I saw this clip.
I would like to see this monster with 2 fans on VRM in my case.
Customers now only need to wait and in mean time to visit Phanteks, XSPC, Bitspower, EKWB and Alphacool site to demand Monoblock if they like. Loud and clear, with big fonts, We Want Monoblock for HER. Or maybe even Swiftech or natemann could change something.
But to be honest with this motherboard I would go rather on CPU Block to keep default cooling on VRM.

Inside is Intel Extreme i9-7890X with 18C and 36T.
His power after OC is similar to power of Intel Xeon when SR-2 is launched or even bigger.
Because of that X299 is very good platform.
Really no reason to compare performance in games because this is multifunction platform far faster than Z370.
Only i7-7820X should be some minimum, below him not worth to go.
In previous years longetivity of EVGA boards is famous, that's most important thing for X299.
Really no flaw for i9-7900X and stronger models except thermal paste.

Even with so high clock, 4.3GHz Turbo OC capability are far better than AMD processors.
500-600MHz in most situation. On AMD max is 200-300MHz.
It's important to say that i9-7900X and i7-7820X and i9-7890X Turbo is very close to max OC capability of i7-6900K and i7-6950X.
They reach so high clock with expensive custom loop and i9 series with normal AIO.

This motherboard is very good, but it can't cost $650. Its price should be within $400-500, because main competitor ASUS ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX costs $430 or ASRock X299 OC FORMULA - $400!

I figure it will cost close to the Rampage VI Extreme price, since they are the board that compete against each other, but speculating hasn’t been correct in recent times, so we shall see.

ASUS ROG RAMPAGE VI EXTREME is not for overclockers, but for beautiful New Year's lighting, it has options that are have not X299 dark, and do not need overclockers!

I didn’t realize the Vi Extreme was being pushed off as their top tier board, since it was the top of the line in the past.

To say it is not for overclockers is wrong though. It is for overclockers just like any other x299 board is, since all boards are for x series chips that are unlocked for overclocking. It may not be directed at Extreme overclockers like it was in the past, but it is still for overclockers that aren’t using ln2.

I cant wait, take your time, make this beast perfect. Just ordered a delidded and binned 7900x@4.7 from Silicon Lottery, cant wait for these two to meet

Looking for a new cpu, check out silicon lottery, they sell delidded cpu's and even offer delidding/bin service

Re: x299 dark spotted in the wild! 2017/11/08 01:28:16 (permalink)
This board can't cost even close to Rampage VI Extreme. That board is overpriced because reputation and because
it's mostly specific for i9 series with 8 DIMM slots.
X299 Dark could cost max as Rampage VI Apex.
Rampage VI Apex have same options, BIOS and settings as Extreme, only 4 DIMM slots.
Apex have option to hold 4x M.2 SSD.

Exactly because ASUS overpriced so much Rampage VI Extreme customers should turn to EVGA and invest in Dark X299 rather than Apex.
Because X299 Dark is premium EVGA board and Apex is not ASUS premium board. It's just chance to charge same price as Rampage V Extreme for cheaper board. Real price of Rampage VI Apex is similar to Crosshair VI Extreme, max 350$. And now customers no other options if they want ROG than to pay 450$ for Apex.
Rampage VI Apex could be successor of Rampage Formula series, and their price was never over 350-360$.
X299 Dark have black shield on I/O Ports and Apex not.

They didn't say that Rampage VI Extreme is not for overclockers, only that is more for people who will use bigger memory kits rather than faster but smaller kits. And Apex is more oriented for overlockers with only 4 DIMM slots and have 8+8 pin connector, but I doubt 8+4 could be flaw.

I can't wait to see new video clips.
There is great option for memory for X299 Dark.
Dominator Platinum modded with Memory Moding Kit from Cablemod.
Than Dominator Platinum could become full black with white, red, blue or green LED.

This is black version, there is and white version.
You need 2 packs for EVGA X299 Dark. Now don't need to be GSkill Trident Z for color combatibility.

    https://store.cablemod.com/product/cablemod-memory-modding-kit-for-corsair-dominator/

I have enough memory for ALL DIMMs on X299 Dark. 4x4 GB only...
Now on RVE 4 DIMM slots are empty.

By the end of the year is good news. It’s almost mid November, end of the year is only a month and a half.

No joking with X299 Dark, that's not Z370 to be outdated for 10 months.
People will buy X299 Dark next 2 years and more and use even 5 years, they should optimize nice BIOS with i9 series.

I only can say I'm sad because EVGA didn't launched so nice X99 motherboard.
They plan to give 2 small fans with package or not. If not it's not problem to find small fans.
Real board for 10-18 core procesors.

Excellent because customers could buy GTX1080Ti FTW3 in color scheme as EVGA X299 Dark.
And I saw EKWB Waterblock look cool for EVGA GTX1080Ti FTW3.

     are you joking?
Did you talk about the end of October beginning of November? and now in general at the end of the year?

Definitely doesn’t look like a joke, unfortunately.

Anyway, the board is under production. If it is rushed, you risk a broken product. Wait patiently or grab an apex. Either way, meh.

Looks like they change top heatsink.
This year ASUS late with boards as well, that not happen very often to them.

Looks like manufacturer need at least month if something is finished to replace with other part, heatsink, different shroud or such things. If they need to change controllers and electronic parts than even more.
Testing, estimating what to do, sending on place where they make changes, again testing if everything is OK, packing and shipping again to stores. Off course I miss probably a lot of things.

This board will compete with the Rampage VI Apex $429.00.

Nice to see them overclocking on the dark. It really looks good but I wish we would see EVGA do a white motherboard also.

    +1 on the white motherboard.
