As title says ,   DO NOT Use "The Bane" smg gun after completing the mission....
 
It is cursed for a good reason, previous owners have all committed suicide or gone crazy..... I found out the hard way and am Google-FU'ing now to try to get answers to get the curse lifted from my character....
 
I was hesitant to use it at first because it said it was cursed,..so I waited for an hour or so for something to happen before using it -- big mistake.  & I'm not just talking about the obvious stats effects it does - something else,  sinister.

    I found an SMG once that talks to you, and slowed my walk speed down to snails pace, it was kinda wierd...

    ....and the effects stay with you for awhile even after you drop it off somewhere or get rid of it.
     
    Thankfully it has gone away now.  The screaming was continueing into my dreams....

    I never had the effect last on my character. Equipped the gun, fired off a few rounds, then sold it but didn't have any lasting "bane".

    ..it's time dependant I assume - the more, & longer you use it - the more it starts carrying over effects to everything, even to the point where it does it all the time , any gun even after getting rid of it for a bit.....

    What lasting effects are you talking about?
     
    I have the corrosive Bane, and I have been using it a whole lot. I love it, and it has never affected anything after switching to another gun. Perhaps this issue you describe is a console thing? 
     
    The corrosive bane is fantastic in last stand on the robots or the armored skags the sheriffs posse rides around on. Literally eats them up. Plus I love the sounds and comments, I cant help but laugh. I am way further in the game than when I originally got the bane and it still holds a permanent spot in my backpack.
     
    Then there is the hyperion sniper rifle that you can get that comments after every shot and reload. That one is interesting but gets annoying quick.

    That rifle ROCK lmao "Atleast you stopped shooting, for a little while" hahah.  Yeah I had the Bane for about aslong as I could get my ass to a vending machine to sell it lol, BL2 is a masterpiece of gaming, man I am actually playing it through a second time....never done that so soon after beating a game before...
     
    Now if I could only figure out why SLI 680 setup gets bogged on this damn game...not often but sometimes in a fire fight it will drop to 0% GPU usage on the cards (or atleast one of them IIRC) then spike then be fine...kinda crappy to get a stutter that bad while in a big fight lol
