They also need to work on detecting the type of memory on AMD video cards better. I bought a used RX 580 off eBay and before I loaded the drivers for the card, GPU-Z said the card had Micron memory on it. Once I loaded up the drivers GPU-Z said it had Hynix memory. Ends up the person I had bought the card from had flashed the wrong bios onto the card. I assume the seller was mining with the card and killed the memory on it as the bios was modded with memory timings that would not allow the card to go above 2000MHz on the memory. These cards will do 2250MHz memory with ease. Anyways with the proper bios on the card it would crash if you tried to use 2250MHz on the memory. Long story short on this purchase I contacted the seller about it and the seller paid to have the card sent back to them and refunded all my money without any argument about the issue.

I wonder if that card would work properly with the original ROM installed

No, I put the proper bios on it and it would not work correctly. It was an ASUS DUAL-RX580-O8G. I have 4 of them right now, all 4 have Micron memory and all 4 cards have the same bios settings on them. Using the bios file from these cards it still would crash if I tried 2250MHz on the memory. Pretty sure the seller pushed the card too hard while mining and damaged the memory, then tried to dump it off on eBay and putting a bios on it that would not allow the card to hit 2000MHz without using Afterburner because they had messed with the timings and the drivers didn't know how to run the memory correctly at those speed, so it would stay under those speeds and not crash.

Here is the bios that was on the card when I received it. See the memory timings? Those numbers and letter are not correct, not even for mining.

If the card actually had Hynix memory on it, the memory timings would look like this from the factory.

I could not see memory speed on the Asus site but it does seem like the cards were abused very badly.

Only card I got from a minor was a HD 6970 with an aftermarket cooler. Card ran fine and I used it for about 2 years till I got a HD 7870 which as powerful but used 1/2 the power. the only gripe over the HD 6970 was the card was a power pig. All games I owned were playable on it so it was good at what it was designed for.

The minor said the aftermarket cooler was there to deal with howling from the blower style fan AMD likes to use

I got that card for less than the cooler's cost
