Wonder if those claims that the GTX 680 were right about it being 45% faster than the *cough*HD 7970*cough* that I've been eyeing for the better part of the last two months or so.   Don't worry, I plan to be loyal to EVGA, and go back to nVidia graphics.  AMD graphics were nice when Windows 7 first launched, but right now...  It's about time I went back to being a GeForce Junkie again.

Hmm, 45 percent is quite impressive if those rumors held true.  Alas, I am guessing around +10-15 percent in some apps, -10-15 percent in others?  Must...get....real......benchmarks....soon:)

It's on NCIX now. Both MSI and eVGA.

My worry is that GK110 may be coming out in 6 months, so the purpose of 680 is similar to that of the 480 2 years ago.

You're probably right. GTX 780 aka GK110 might be coming out with 512 bit GDDR5 with 2000-2500 CUDA cores. Expect the launch no sooner than August 2012.

It's so obvious that Maxwell will not see the light of day in 2013.

About GTX 680, if the price is really going to be $499, it's awesome! http://www.fudzilla.com/h...us-$499?tmpl=component

Re:nVIDIA GTX 680 latest news (March 16 news) 2012/03/21 10:44:27 (permalink)
scarface_810 big qustion who here geting a EVGA 680 GTX on mar 22 or 23 i know i am

I already sold off my 3-way GTX 580 Hydro 3 GBs, waiting on 2-way GTX 680s (air cooled)!  Money in the bank, waiting to burn...  Don't want to dip into 3-way until the more premium cards come out (Classified).

Though, they will  have to be the 4 GB versions of the EVGA GTX 680 before I *can* buy them.  I have tri-monitors @ 6000x1080 resolution, that requires upwards of 2.8 GB of vram in BF3.

I'm going back to air-cooled because my system was too damn efficient at removing that heat - and dumping out that heat into my office, increasing my ambient to 90F+!  To justify that "downgrade" of H2O to radiant heat, here's the formula I used to justify to myself:
  • GTX 680s may have less than 225W power consumption (per the 2x6-pin connectors).  Yes, the Toms hardware review noted above shows like 370+: remember, they measure the power draw of the entire system (I am just talking about the card itself, before overclocking).
  • The 2-way GTX 680 SLI scores of stock speeds is just a bit under 3-way GTX 580s overclocked heavily that I could find on modsrigs (over 960 Mhz on the core).
  • I'll have only 2 lower-powered cards versus the 3 higher-powered cards.
Looks like a win for me!

But EVGA: YOU GOT TO RELEASE THE 4 GB VERSIONS ASAP

GTX 680 main page is on newegg. But the card itself is not available.

Yep GTX 680 with 2gb is a bit useless, they should have made all of them 4gb...
