Yeah, the 2xxx series wasn't a big enough jump from the 1xxx. Heck, the 3xxx is barely enough to want to jump. When RTX style programming gets more popular it may be more desirable, but a 1080ti isn't missing anything important.

The 1080 and 1080ti cost a lot more to develop than the prior models due to nvidia getting a scare over amd saying they were about to drop something huge to beat them. Nvidia believed it and amd wasn't completely bluffing but when nvidia threw out a bunch of tech they were holding back to milk the customers for years it turned out that amd still lost and video cards rose to meet that cost. The next generation of cards SHOULD have went back down, but they figured people would buy if they kept it the same and here we are. -____-
