Hi Sergio. Thanks for all the great posts. I just received my evga ftw3 ultra hybrid card. Its pulling 460 watt max on the 500 watt oc bios. Will flashing the xoc bios allow 500watt power draw and will it mess up the fans on my hybrid card. Kind regards. Francis

I got the exact same replacement card pulling the same 468 watt. What score did u get in Port Royal. Do you know what Bios can give the full 500 watt with this card?

As stated quite a lot on the past 20 pages, if you force flash (as in, not use EVGA's tool, but rather use NVFlash with the -f register) the 0.1 rev 500W VBIOS onto a 1.0 rev card, you'll pull the full 500W.

Thanks for your reply. Are you referring to the original bios Jacob posted? This wont have rebar compatability though? Also will this mess up the fans on a hybrid card? Thanks again....Fran

My pleasure bro, as stated before I flashed 94.02.42.80.27 VBIOS as I'm on FTW3 Ultra Air, not the Hybrid. I don't know what can happen to the fans because it will update the card's firmware, but I don't think there's a VBIOS like this for the Hybrid, maybe someone can help with this?

Cheers, Sergio!

You'll need to find the original 0.1 revision 500W Hybrid VBIOS, or find the tool that can extract it from EVGA's flash tool. Yes, it might have REBAR if it's for the 0.1 revision card and it was the REBAR version, and not the first 500W VBIOS that was released.

You might need to get ahold of it from someone with the card, though. Finding the hybrid VBIOS appears to be an effort in futility.

EDIT: I found an original Hybrid 0.1 revision VBIOS w/o rebar and PMed you a download link. You'll need PX1 to update it to REBAR compatible, and I recommend using GPU-Z to save that REBAR version so you have it. Keep one of your two VBIOS stock, just in case you need to ever RMA.

Hi,

Got hold of a EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra to start some overclocking for better performance.

I'm quite new to the oc business and I have tried to read as much as possible in this forum about the power balance issue. My card has S/N starting with: 2012 and black lips, have updated the BIOS through Precision X1 and have BIOS version: 94.02.42.80.AD with Re-BAR enabled in BIOS slot 1 (Normal) and BIOS version: 94.02.42.80.27 with Re-BAR enabled in BIOS slot 2 (OC).

Could someone please write a simple tutorial how to best test if my card has power balancing issues and if it draws to much power from the PCIe slot?

Do I have the right BIOS versions, should I run the BIOS switch in Normal or OC mode? Should I do the overclocking with EVGA Precision X1 or MSI Afterburner and what oc settings should I use for either software? Should I use GPU-Z or HWMONITOR to monitor how much power my card draws from the different connections? How is the total power calculated? What benchmark or test software should I use to run the power load test, is Port Royal the only one that's good enough, is there any ok free alternatives since 3DMark Port Royal costs money.

Thanks in advance!

I flashed both 94.02.42.80.27 (Rev 0.1 500W) and 94.02.42.C0.02 (Rev 1.0 500W) VBIOS to my Rev 1.0 card, then ran 3Dmark multiple times to try to get Time Spy score as high as possible. I got ~1% higher score with 94.02.42.80.27 VBIOS.
Rev 0.1 500W VBIOS pulls 505W MAX and Rev 1.0 500W VBIOS pulls 478W MAX in Time Spy test. However, I notices some display error (some lattices with abnormal color) when loading 3Dmark (not in Time Spy test) with Rev 0.1 500W VBIOS on my Rev 1.0 card (it returns normal after flashed to Rev 1.0 VBIOS, so it can't be hardware issue). I think that's a point why Jacob suggested not to flash Rev 0.1 to your Rev 1.0 card, there could be some compatibility issues since Rev 1.0 card has different PCB design, DrMOS and PWM controller.

no it's not that it's because the 500W+ VBIOS will load the heck out the PCIe cables from the PSU at 160W+ easy

  No,
  500W Rev 0.1 VBIOS on my Rev 1.0 loads average 155W thru 8Pin#1 & #2 and 120W 8Pin#3.
  500W Rev 1.0 VBIOS on my Rev 1.0 loads average 150W thru 8Pin#1 & #2 and 105~110W 8Pin#3.
  520W KP VBIOS on my Rev 1.0 average 160W thru 8Pin#1 & #2 and 130W 8Pin#3.
Only Kingpin VBIOS can pass 160W+ thru 1 PCIe 8Pin easily.
