Factory paste on mine wasnt the best iv seen.
Was really dry from factory,
Then what ever paste they use on the chokes is just like dust so you would need to get thermal pads to replace that.

Opening up is easy to.
Remove screws in back plate.
Remove back plate.
Un plug the 3 fan headder plugs by pressing the tab and pushing it out with a screw driver on the open tab bit.

Then apply pressure on the X-Clamp around the die as you undo the screws so it doesnt strip off the last 1-2 threads as it releases since it has quite a bit of force.

Then on first removal took a bit of time since it was really stuck on. Had to slightly jiggle it to break the seal of thermal compound and cooler.

Thanks for this! Did you see any reduction in temps after reapplying new paste?

My temps were good to start with, mid 50's, With a fan curve thats.
Min speed 30%. (fans made bad sound when they got to 20-25% on auto)
80% fan at 45C
90% fan at 60C
100% fan at 70C

I pulled the cooler off to shunt mod and water block the card so dont have any after comparisons.

I ended up selling my 3090 XC3 on the used market. couldn't deal with the lack of support and horrible temps on the card. feel free to close the thread.

This is why we watercool GPUs. Watercooling you will see temps below 50C. Air the temps will go as high as 90C.

my 3080ftw ultra only hits 73 with the new bios and an overclock while gaming ultra 3840x1600. before the new bios it was in the 60s max. very impressive. my current case is a coolermaster h500m. nothing fancy going on. evga 240aio at the top for the 9900ks, two 200mm intakes at the front, and one 120 for exhaust. i can only guess having that huge air cooler for the CPU is blocking air flow. you'd definitely benefit from negative pressure by exhausting more air than you're putting in by adding fans to the top.

I don’t think the cpu cooler is the issue. If you read my first post, the 3090 fe card ran 36 degrees cooler than the evga 3090 xc3 in the same setup

ah yes, but the FE card has the entire back half as a pass through with fins, while any other card does not. the 3090 coolers are great

At least I know I can warm my toaster pastries on the backplate...
