You would think they would sell more directly to the customer instead of shipping them to retailers.

They have contracts to fulfill.

They probably have contracts with the retailers to provide X amount of cards. Gotta be hurting the business management department looking at all that money they could save by simply selling directly to the customer. I am also curious if the halted shipments direct due to the April deadline. So that way they can charge post tariff prices.

It would be fine for miners and gamers if gamers were able to do good preorders and miners were not.
As a builder of rigs for a small business I won't get to make my 20-25 rigs this year. I won't get to earn around 8-10k which supplements my veterans disability pension.
I see that scalping stock is missing on ebay. And on amazon which means all the gear/chips are going high to large farms.

There are only 43x  3090 for sale new in box buy it now from 1900-3000

There are only 40x 3080 for sale new in box buy it now from 1200-2200

yet the network hashrate is now over 403,000 gh which is like 4,030,000 nvidia 3080's up from 290,000 gh on jan 1 which is like 2,900,000 so in 50 days we added 1,100,000 nvidia 3080 to the network. yes I know that it is not all 3080's it is amd ,nvidia and asics. Still a lot of gear has been directed away from gamers.

If the amd and nvidia people were not so secretive about actual sales we could know if 1,100,000 gpus in 50 days is a lot. But no-one knows how many gpus nvidia and amd sell combined yearly. If it where 20,000,000 combined then you could say that mining is taking away a lot of gpus. percentage wise.

I will hope for a Newegg Shuffle today.

Large miners have prior contracts with Nvidia and AIBs, and there is no way to differentiate a gamer from a small miner/system builder.

I do system builds myself 5-10 a year and am unable to do any this year so far except with 1660 supers.  It sucks but its an nvidia supply issue. Lots of peeps hurting financially so I can't blame them for trying out mining or scalping when nvidia knew about supply issues before launch.

People on this forum are making lots of post trying to guesstimate how many 30 series cards sold directly to large farms but its impossible to tell. Asics make up a large portion of the hash rate increase.
The newest Eth asic gets about 0.8 Mh/W with older models getting 0.5Mh/W.
In comparison the RX 5000 series can get up to ~0.48 Mh/W.
The 30 series can get up to ~0.45 Mh/W.
The RX 6000 series can get up to ~0.38 Mh/W.
20 and 16 series up to ~.38 Mh/W.
Older cards close to ~0.25 Mh/W.

Older cards and ASICS are likely the bulk of the increase in hashrate starting in dec while the 30 series were likely the bulk increase starting in August.

I figured as much, but I am sure they could push more product or atleast be slightly more transparent about there production pace. They give all the indications that they do not want to eat the cost of sell pre-tariff prices.

They likely don't want to eat the cost however it all depends on the supply incoming from Nvidia. I wouldn't be surprised if they abandon the notification queue at some point.

You could call it bad business, but they are selling out all the same. I am more surprised that with so many people mining, bitcoin has only gotten strong not weaker. Makes no sense really because usually when you flood the market it dilutes prices, but its almost like someone is feeding it to keep it growing.

Updated forecast for the 3070 XC3 Ultra 3755. Does not account for the expected delay from Lunar New Year. I believe the orange path is the most likely.

No one is mining Bitcoin with GPUs. They are mining ethereum with GPUS.

Regardless, it is going up in price because Bitcoin is a deflationary currency and the US fed cant stop printing money. More hashrate secures both bitcoin and ethereum increasing the stability of the network.

I really can't get behind mining at all. All that math, all those algorithms, all that power usage, all those raw materials spent...for what? just to line some pockets. If only there were other distributed computing applications that the miners could put their efforts towards that actually help the world. Like F@H for example. If people found a way to get paid for doing F@H or SETI research, both of which can actually help the world (and there are many others out there), I'd be totally ok with it. Why can't they merge the two things?

Most coins that have value serve some kind of purpose, mainly financial or scientific.
