Am I an idiot for buying a Refurbished model from Newegg a couple days ago? Apparently I am.

The card lasts 5 seconds in a benchmark, game, and graphically intensive. 5 SECONDS before going black screen with 100% fan speed.

register the card and uptoad the receipt

go here https://www.evga.com/thermalmod/

see if you need pads or just request a RMA, refurbishment or not it will have a 2yr manufactures warranty against defects, EVGA are really good and respond very well to requests for help

and don't so hard on yourself

This guy said it all.

If a RMA is possible with EVGA, so request it.
Most probably they're going to send one without any problems.

I have a 'Black screen & fans spin up to 100%' problem also with my EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 SC Gaming 6GB purchased in August 2016.
Can anyone confirm that the issue described here also exists for the 1060? Because looking through the thread I only see 1080 mentioned.

I've had this with my GTX 1070. It did it once and I had to cut the power. Didn't think anything of it. Then the screen started going blank more frequently but without the fans spinning up, but it would correct itself. Yesterday it went blank and fans went wild. After turning off and back on, it seems to be totally dead. The system won't power up, so long as the card is connected to the psu. Been told I need to RMA. Found this thread whilst trying to find out what the cause is and if it's likely to be a problem after the card is fixed or replaced.

New to the forums and unfortunately got the Black Screen + Fans 100% problem but just wondering can you get a RMA through EVGA if you purchased a 1080 through amazon?

Was it from Amazon or 3rd party threw Amazon?

it was "Amazon.com.ca, Inc."

Should be able to. you need to register the card and I would upload a copy of the invoice as they will want it when doing the RMA anyways.. file for an rma afterwards, or call them.

Whelp, never thought I would be in this convo. Going to do  my first RMA return but seems like it'll be pointless...

Why would it be pointless? Either you have a product with a warranty or you do not.
