RogueMaster,
I can't imagine what's going wrong for you but I have the gear selection entry and have used it. I also have the F12 screenshot function working. I just have the weird characters. Have you tried re-flashing the bios? It looks like something went wrong when you flashed. That usb drive not being recognized might be a clue, idk.

I'm going to try a re-flash. The original update to 1.09 was done via the desktop installer. This time, I'm going to grab one of the USB sticks I have and try it that way. I had everything torn up in here after building this machine, and couldn't find the silly things when I did the update.

Re-flash didn't work. Still can't access the gear settings for memory.

On the good side, the "can't detected USB key" error only happens if there's not a USB stick in the motherboard bios port. I suppose that's probably in the readme/manual for the bios...

Wow.
Maybe others have suggestions, hopefully.
I hope the bios is not corrupted but if it is you can try flipping the bios switch and use the other one which I'm guessing you have never updated. I leave it set to original factory bios just in case of disaster.

I'm wondering if I can step back to perhaps 1.08 or 1.07. I think it was on 1.07 prior to updating to 1.09, but due to issues I was having with MSI over their chronically defective water coolers, I hadn't had the opportunity to properly set things up in bios.

I have a feeling there may be issues with this bios update, just due to all of the oddness with the text on several screens. Not 100% certain of that, but I'm definitely going to ivestigate a rollback or switching to the second position after I get home from work today.

Sure you can step back. I did it while trying to diagnose a problem I had. Turns out it wasn't the bios and changing the bios didn't make a difference.

I keep all the ones I downloaded on a usb drive and select the one I want to try at any time. But I ALWAYS use the bios update utility built into the bios with that usb drive. I have always been skeptical of trying to do it in windows.

108 was the one that caused a lot of unjustified WHEA-Logger errors for several people. Then we were all on the test bios v0.00 for quite a while until v1.09 came out.

Tech_Lee issued it for us to test here in the WHEA-Logger thread https://forums.evga.com/FindPost/3517519
if you're interested.

Good luck!

Well, sadly none of the bios updates allows me to change gears for RAM. The setting simply does not appear for me. I've tried 1.07, 1.08, 1.09 and the WHEA-logger test bios. Will likely re-flash to 1.09 sometime tonight after I finish some chores, now that the temps have dropped out of the mid 90's.

I haven't yet tried changing to the alternate bios via the hardware switch. I'll give that a shot as well, on the chance that something is borked with the main.

Switching bios positions didn't change anything. The second position is on 1.04, but still can't get the gear dropdown. B0ba confirmed in another thread that it's running in gear one, based on the numbers I see in cpu-z, but it's somewhat concerning that nothing I do lets me manually select the gear setting.

@EVGATech_LeeM

Any ideas on how I can enable the gear dropdown in the bios?

Hey,

I had those WHEA-Logger events in my logs, and after v1.08, they disappeared, BUT:

Now I'm dealing with a sound glitch on my USB-connected DJ controller. The controller acts like an external sound card, but unfortunately, I'm getting some scratching and cracking noises when playing music or videos or any other sounds.
it only occurs when I activate the CPU C-states option in the BIOS.
This did not occur with version v1.07
When I deactivate the C-states, the CPU runs very hot when idle and does not slow down.

Anyone experienced something similar or got any tips I could give a shot?
