The radiator is in the right spot, but I personally would have installed the block/pump 180° as to have the inlet/outlet at the bottom.

noob question - do you need to use thermal paste or is it optional? which brand is best? Thanks!

If you are talking about between the CPU and the block, it is NOT optional. Whether pre-applied as most AIOs are, or if the AIO came without (unusual), some thermal paste has to be there, pre-applied or user applied. As far as brand choice, everyone has their favorite. I use Kryonaut from Thermal Grizzly https://www.thermal-grizzly.com/en/products, and it is available from Amazon, Newegg, PPCS, etc.

One more thing if you don’t mind me picking your brain.. what are the top tier cooling brands? (Like it seems as though EVGA and ASUS make the best GPUs and Mobo’s… which cooling brands are considered the same level?)

Are you asking about custom loop or AIOs?

You have a lot of choices. Corsair, EVGA, NZXT, Cooler Master, Lian Li, plus a bunch more. Most case manufactures have AIOs and use the Asetek patent. This is where you have to do some homework and check manufacture web sites to see what will fit your requirements, read real world experience type reviews, and, hopefully, more members can give their thoughts and experiences. I have never used an AIO and can not make a recommendation. I have only built custom loops for the past ten plus years. So let's hope more forum members read this and jump in.
