i5 2500 vs i7 2600k differences?

looking at both cpus and wondering why the 2500 is 200 $ and the 2600k is 300$? when theres a small difference in ghz speed.
 
is the 2600k worth the extra 100? or is it a waste of money ? 
 
whats the difference between the two?

video card: EVGA GTX 280 vanilla
CPU: intel q9550 3.4ghz
Mobo: Evga 780i
ram: 4gb sli enabled DDR2
PSU: corsair 1000w
OS: windows 7
monitor: 24" P244w

    2500K=no HT (4 Cores / 4 Threads) | 6MB L3 Cache

    thats the only difference?
     
    will it make much difference in gaming?

    most games have not been optimized for hyperthreading yet and there are programs / apps that benefits from HT's and more cache so, if you're concerned only for gaming then you probably settle for 2500K and spend the 100 dollars for mem upgrades or SSD upgrades.

    2500k is best if all you are going to be doing is gaming. 2600k if you like to play around with video editing/rendering or intensive photoshop.

    The difference shows when you are rendering video mostly.

    I would recommend you wait for the Hexa-core i7 SB EE
     
    The K one not the directly the EE one
     
    That way you won't have a GPU impeding heat spread(Higher overclocks)

    If you're re-encoding movies, like a full bluray to like an .mkv... 2600k tops out, hands down.  Any graphics or design, like photoshop, premier, Quicktime Pro, Lightroom - go 2600k.
