So i just installed my new evga 1300 watt G2 psu. I was pretty stoked about it and hooked everything up exactly as i did before with my 850 watt psu. when i plugged in the psu, my EVGA z68 FTW board glowed blue showing me that it had power. When i hit the power button, the orange light showed up as it usually does when it posts but after that...nothing! No fan spins, no post codes, no nothing.
i'm pretty depressed right now and am wondering if perhaps this 1300 watt psu is bad?
i don't think i have a grounding issue in the case. this is depressing! ;/

the only thing i can think of is that i used the 8 pin connectors that were labeled 'vga' to hook into the motherboard since the z68 requires up to 2 additional 8 pin connectors. maybe i will try unplugging them and see what happens.!?

okay...update!! still having issues. after i unplugged the two 8 pin connectors and hit the power button. the fans and water pump briefly turn on...maybe 1/2 a second and turns back off. now it seems like there is not enough power. but for some reason, the 8 pin vga connectors aren't liked by the motherboard.
should i maybe plug these 8 pin connectors to another port in the back of the PSU instead of the red labeled VGA ports?

okay. so i have to leave for work tonight at the hospital. i was thinking i could plug in those 8 pin connectors on the pcu port labeled 'cpu' and see what happens. this won't happen in 13 hours so if i get back home and people are screaming at me not to do it...i won't...but i'm trying to figure out why it won't post!
my guess is that perhaps the motherboard utilizes the power from the psu first and graphics cards second. so if my 8 pin connectors are in the vga ports on the psu then there might be a lag in issuing power since the motherboard and psu might work together to decide when to delegate and 'turn on' the video cards. so my guess to fixing that would be to plug the 8 pin connectors into the cpu ports 1 and 2 on the back of the power supply unit. think it will work?

Can you unplug everything that is not necessary for powering on the machine, and just plug in the 24pin and 8pin CPU power (and graphics)

Power on and see if it shuts off.

Use the black cables that are marked CPU and plug them into the black 8pin connections on the power supply marked CPU as well to power the 8pin power near the CPU.  The VGA ports and wires are wired differently and will prevent it from POSTing.  Please note that two 8pin power connections is only required if you are doing extreme overclocking so you can run the board with only one attached.

the cpu wires that came with this psu are only 4 pin. could i place two 4 pin connections into one 8 pin plug? i wasn't sure of that to begin with so that's why i used the 8 pin vga cables. >.<
i'm sitting at the nurses station right now, wishing i could try this out. can't wait til i make it home!

Yes, the 2x 4pin squares fit together to make an 8pin for the CPU power.  Some older motherboards boards and very small motherboards still just have connections for a 4pin so this is why they are split.

I see! Well I will definitely have to try this when I get home! I'm sure it will post just fine...but if not, I'll come back crying to you guys. I was always just weary of combing two connectors to fit one plug. Always seemed fishy. But i can see why you guys designed it that way to be able to support that many more boards. Thanks a bunch guys! Hope this is the solution!

you know...that totally did the trick! i was so perplexed by the split in the 8 pin power connector that's why i went with the vga cable. sometimes i have blonde moments.
    posting from this computer now!
now, with this extra power...time to overclock some more! ;)
