Recently I bought an eVGA Nvidia Geforce 7600GS AGP, to update the old rig I passed to my young brother.

When I put the card on the AGP bus and connected it to the Power Source turned ON PC, booted on windows, got picture, then installed nvidia driver 257.21_desktop_winxp_32bit_english_whql, reebot & got picture again.

Then the troubles started, screen started to flick about 5 minutes after turning ON the PC, another minute passed then serious flicker and the no picture, just a black screen turning dark gray at some intervals.
Reebot PC > no image of initial screen at all, (No BIOS info, ect.) same black screen.

Some info about my old rig:

Motherboard: Intel  D865GLC
RAM: 1GB
Soundboard: Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 2
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 320GB configured at SATA 1.5
USB Card Reader:
Pioneer DVD/CD burner
Power Source: Generic @400Watt with 19A @+12V rails

I'm thinking about buying a new Power Source with 25A @+12V rails, now what's is turning me mad, is the following: Did my 7600 got damaged?
Also, I'm thinking on test the 7600 with the Power Source of my actual rig (50A on  +12V rails.)

Any info is greatly aprecciated.

400W should be more than enough for a 7600GS; although it's (PSUs) failure is a possibility. Have you tried it with a diff. monitor, maybe the inverter died...lastly the card is a possibility too. try the video card in a different pc if you have another with agp slot. let us know how it works out...

Check the fan on the video card. if it failed a few minutes after turning on, i bet its overheating and the fan is probably stuck.  Also look at the video card itself and see if you find any capacitors that are bulging out on either end.

Hi, again guys, thanks for all the info & support. Right now the problem is solved.

Cause of malfunction: Crappy Power Source, tested the Amperage output and the read was 14A, that's 5A drop!!! from the 19A on the Power Source Label.

Tested the videocard again with my main rig Power Source, (Corsair SLI/Crossfire capable with 50A output on +12V rail, in the same intel motherboard, got clear & stable image.

I just ordered a 600W PSU with 25A on +12V rails, to feed this baby

Note for owners of old AGP MoBos, if you buy a 7600GS, be sure your PSU has enough juice for the card (Yes that's above 20A on +12V Rail).

Yeah lol when something like normally happens its the gpu or the psu, glad you had a psu tester sitting around=) I normally try to overshoot my hardwares power consumptions needs as well so i do not stress my psu to the point of failure.
