I replaced my stock paste(way too much and at least triple amount needed) and to my joy the card has risen to potential.
A used Arctic Silver 5 with the spread method. Before my 1080 sc card would zoom to 85 in bf1 and 4 but would hold there with fans on about 80 percent.

Good job on the decrease in gaming temps! Still running 80% fans at 71*C?

It’s been proven that there isn’t “too much” but EVGA’s application method is less than optimal this day and age.

The temp drop is very nice to see.

Gpu fan in the pic is at 65%. The oem paste had a ridge on all 4 corners and was covering all of the connectors.
Not as bad on the gpu but the silvery gunk was kind of like this on the edges.

Just because it comes out the side doesn’t affect performance. JayzTwoCentz already covered it well enough. It’s the application method and choice of paste, not quantity.
