make sure you're plugging the esata drive before you turn on the computer.

If you're using an old windows, like windows xp, you might have to switch the sata option in bios to IDE, otherwise AHCI should be fine.

And make sure you installed all motherboard drivers.

Go into the BIOS (delete key on boot) and in integrated peripherals section make sure the 2 Jmicron AHCI are set to enabled. The first one listed should be for the eSATA (#7) but enable both to be on the safe side as it would not be the first time a manual listed the SATA ports incorrectly. Ahhum cough, 680i manual. ;)

Are you using nForce Driver and update to Bios Version P10 if so here detail how to enable eSATA in BIOS Intergrated Peripherals menu below:-
Go Bios setting by hit del button when boot up and make sure logo off in Standard CMOS Features!

    1. Go to Intergrated Peripherals and select eSATA config :-

    2. Choose the number of SATA as eSATA to enable but please check what number did you put eSATA plug on to motherboard? When you done setting eSATA and then please save to BIOS and reboot when boot up and it will delect your eSATA! ( I think you may hit F10 when the BIOS appear for eSATA Setting maybe no need I not sure)

    Good Luck

Can you tell me which nforce it that from EVGA or XFX? If EVGA here BIOS download Version to P10 but but need know what parts number on your motherboard? Can you find out and tell me the will help you find right BIOS!
You need burn image ISO onto disc by use Windows Disc image Burn if you are using Vista so download here for free :-imgburn
Before you update your BIOS please make sure default your setting BIOS and save then reboot before you insert boot disc then let update automatic so when it done update make sure switch off and unplug power leave for few mins. Then you ready boot up new version to P10. (make sure take out BOOT disc before you switch on PC.)
Or it other way can use USB boot so here link guilds you use How to flash your BIOS from usb.
Any problem so I will be here help you!

No problem and Thanks Shelbyb117 for the parts numbers and I got the right BIOS version for your motherboard and please download NF79 P10.ISO. You can burn P10 on to disc by using Windows Disc Image Burn or ImgBurn for free! So boot to disc at BIOS boot up and let install update to P10.
Let hope it will work and GASP 13 G G Kids!!!!
Please let me know how it go?

Yea sorry about the 7th SATA and Jmicron info, I thought I got that info from the 790i online manual but I must have been looking at another manual by mistake.

ok little up date ,,,first off thanks for the advice on flashing the bios,, my problem was  the new usb key board drivers were not fully install'd ,,use'd an old school key board and went right in ,,

also i think i found the answer to  enableing the eSATA port on rear of case,,i beleave you have to  enable one of the 6 internal SATA slots as an eSATA , we'l see
but right now i have a question about usb3.0 but i'l start another thread ,,
    thanks again
