No, you really need at least a 550 watt psu, a 650 would give you plenty of power for the rest of the system.
Gigabyte Z590 Vision G Mobo, intel i3 10105 CPU, 32GB GSkill Ripjaws DDR4 3200 RAM, EVGA GTX 750ti FTW Video Card, EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 power supply, Fractal Design Focus G (White) case, Cooler Master Hyper212 RGB Black CPU cooler. 2 Dell LED Monitors (20" & 24"), SK Hynix Gold 1TB SATA SSD (OS Drive), 6 WD HDDs 13TB total (Storage). Rig is a partial update on the old Gigabyte P43/Q6600 OC rig... The WD HDD's, (13TB, total), Blu-ray & DVD burners, GTX750ti FTW & Supernova 850 G2 psu, migrated from old setup... Will get an 11700K, and an RTX 3060 12GB Black card, when I'm ready to OC... Windows 11 Pro set for performance, and it runs at 4.2Ghz... Thrustmaster Ferrari GT Experience Wheel/Pedals, Built for Gaming, Video Production, and Cakewalk, Cubase DAWs...

Yes you can as long as it's a quality power supply with plenty of amps on the 12v rail. It would be wise to use a higher watt power supply though.

If you were to actually read the system requirements of the card...you'll find that it says this: RequirementsMinimum of a 450 Watt power supply. (Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 24 Amps.) Two available 6-pin PCI-E power dongles That is the "bare minimum" required which, you really do not want to try and run on. If you end up overloading the PSU, you will have nothing but problems. When it comes to PSU's, more than you need is best....IMHO.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO UPLOAD A COPY OF YOUR INVOICE = My Current Linked and Synced Settings All detailed system components are listed on my Mods Rigs page.

Why do you guys always wildly overestimate the power requirements for a given card? The truth is that even in an overclocked X58 system, the entire PC will only peak at 325w with a GTX460 http://www.guru3d.com/art...orce-gtx-460-review/13 That's not even sustained loads, just the peak power consumption observed. Realistically any 450w PSU that is of decent quality can safely and comfortably power a PC with a GTX460 even if you overclock.

And by quality he does not mean one that came in a pre-built system from Dell or something. I have never known one of those to hold a decent load. I like Cooler Master, RJ loves Corsair, Seasonic, TT and Antec have good ones as well.I think I am missing some... Pretty much stay away from anything that seems like it is cheap(cost wise). I have had good experience with Rosewill and Raidmax but most will say steer clear of those. Everyone likes to overestimate but if you have a quality unit that is under 2 years old it should be up to the task.

Did you ready crap's article? IT clearly shows a full system draw with a 1GB 460 and overclocked i7 at barely over 300W. nVidia would not set power minimums if you could not run it and it would not be smart of them to leave no room. Why would they recommend that you use a PSU that will be at 100% load the whole time? They would not. Unless you are running an SR-2 build you will be fine with a good 450W

hmmm, not so sure about that. Admittadly this is the GTX 460sc o/c version, but A. who leaves their settings stock anymore? and B. sustained high loads are easily attained with certain games and when folding, so do need to be taken into account. So say 350 for the GPU, throw in another 200 for CPU fans Hdds etc and you're up to 550, adding in a safety buffer so you're not constantly maxing the PSU and you're up to 650-700W. Which really, given the price difference between PSU's (even quality ones) is not that different at those power levels, should be a no-brainer to go for the higher wattage and efficiency rating. source http://www.rage3d.com/rev...x_460_sc/index.php?p=4

Simba, you do realize that those numbers are for the whole system not just the card? The power draw for this card as listed by nVidia spec is only 160W so we can say 175W for an OC 1GB card. http://www.nvidia.com/obj...eforce-gtx-460-us.html I am all for having more than you need(just look at my MR;) but if the user does not need/afford really high-end stuff then why over sell them? If he is running a 460 1GB he is not looking for top of the line so it is unlikely he will SLI or upgrade anytime soon to warrant the higher rated PSU. Not trying to say you are poor or a n00b OP, just trying to understand your needs/expectations.

my bad actually mis-read the article there. Still and all, I'd run at least a 550w for a system of those specs. 450 for me is just straining the PSU too much, resulting in a shorter PSU lifespan, more potential for power ripples and not enough room for later upgrades. So I guess the answer to the OPs question is YES you can run it on a 450w if it's a decent unit, but if it's a new build spend another $20-20 bucks and get another 100-150 watts on your PSU, plus generally more Amps on your 12v rail/s . If it's an existing unit, if it's more than 1-2 years old, you may run into issues on high load, and the PSU is more than likely going to crap out in fairly short order.
