EVGA 8400 GS Nvidia 1GB DDR3, PCIe x16. Outputs are DVI + HDMI + VGA. Can this single graphic card drive 3 displays simultaneously? How? We have systems running Microsoft Windows 7 x 64 bits.

I believe that the card is only capable of driving 2 displays. It's a chipset limit, not a connector one. As far as I know, the only single cards that can do multiple are the Eyefinity cards from AMD or dual GPU cards. If you had two 8400GS cards, then they could run 3.

thank you. That means I need motherboards with two PCIe x16 slots? Too bad, all the Intel LGA1155 motherboards only has one single PCIe x16 slots.

AMD Eyefinity graphic cards are too high end for general office users - expensive & power use, special software drivers, for all office systems. It would be better to have 2 PCIex16 slots for only a few users options to add one more graphic cards.

Should you add a second card, you won't notice any difference running 8x X 8x vice 16x X 16x, especially for general office applications.

thank you. Am I correct that all Intel LGA1155 motherboard now have nothing but PCIe slots? no more PCI slot? Also, can this 512MB graphic card drive 32" 1080p full digital HD resolution video (not games)? Is there graphic cards use PCIe x1 or PCIe x4 or PCIe x8 slots? For VistaHead: what do you mean running 8x X 8x vice 16x X 16x? do you mean the PCIe x8 and PCIe x16 slots? Any compatible graphic cards in PCIe X8 slots?

Any PCI-E card can run at x8. x16 is full speed for the interface, but 1155 CPUs only support 16 lanes across all PCI-E interfaces, so it cuts down to x8 for two slots. You won't have to worry about that with an 8400GS, as the 480 and up are the only cards that show any real difference between x8 and x16. The 8400GS probably only uses x1 bandwidth. As for driving the displays, I had two 1920x1080 monitors on a 128MB X1550 Radeon and they ran just fine. Desktop apps really don't need much to run. My work also uses old Radeon X1900XTs for dual 1080P monitors, and those have 512MB. It should work fine. Finally, as for slots, this board is 1155 and has one PCI-E (top slot) and two PCI (bottom two): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813186213 PCI is still a long way from going away completely. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

Firestarter512: what do you mean: but 1155 CPUs only support 16 lanes across all PCI-E interfaces, so it cuts down to x8 for two slots. Well, LGA1155 Intel motherboard only has one PCIe x16 slot? One of our shop test system has GeForce 6200 LE with 128MB and we are not able to drive 1080p display. The Windows 7 x64 driver only allows 1680x1050 max resolution. A good reason using Intel motherboards are our bosses believe Intel mb are stable and reliable. We are trying to sell them Asus mb, but, as you know, any hiccups make our shop & support look bad and get the blame.

Because you have only one PCI-E slot, there is no worry on the lanes. If you had two, it would divide them. Even then, the 8400GS would not come close to maxing that out. The issue with the 6200LE might have been the rather extreme age. That architecture between the 6200LE and the 8400GS is COMPLETELY different (vertex shaders and pixel pipelines vs reprogrammable shader processors). Do you have one of the cards in the shop already to try it out with? If you install a moderately recent nVidia driver (like 19x.xx or higher), it should work. Unfortunately I lack one to test on, or I would try it out.

The Nvidia 6200 LE has a maximum supported resolution of 1600x1200 when using DVI and 1920x1440 when using VGA. socket 1155 CPU's have the PCIe controller built into the processor rather than the motherboard and they have support 16 lanes of bandwidth. PCIe slots come in several physical sizes.... Even a slot may be x16 psychically it may not support x16 electrically. In the case of motherboards with two PCIe x16 slots, when you have both slots populated with a card it will limit them to x8 electrically because that is the most the CPU can deliver. There are many different options for motherboards because people have different uses for them. The Intel board you're looking at is probably meant for the office or a gamer on a budget. Intel does make boards with two PCIe x16 slots as you can see here. Those boards are ideally meant for gamers who need more bandwidth for high end graphics cards. I didnt see a board by Intel with two PCIe x16 slots with one limited electrically to x4 (meant for a physics processing card or multiple displays), but other manufacturers have them.... Thank you very much for all your wise advises. The Intel DZ68BC does look best for now, hopefully good enough when they decide to roll out Windows 8 for other office buildings. Two Nvidia 512MB or 1GB PCIex16 graphic cards. Do not know the other one PCIex16 slot (but x8 electrically) would reduce display resolution? Which graphic card would you recommend? We had EVGA cards before, but they never brother to return our inquiry and support questions.

for a simply multimonitor rig, a bunch of PCI cards will run lots of screens, 2 per card not for gaming though, that would need gaming grade cards and a high end board

The reduction to x8 would not affect the maximum resolution. The lane is much, much faster than necessary for 1080p.

I would recommend just picking up another PCIe 8400 GS to power more displays since you can buy them for so cheap. Here are some from reputable brands and there are more available on Newegg... $30 Zotac 8400 GS 256Mb ($10 after mail in rebate) $30 Asus 8400 GS 512Mb ($20 after mail in rebate) $30 EVGA 8400 GS 512Mb Or if you want something that will 3 displays from one card, you can switch to AMD. These cards support a max resolution of 2560x1600 and can drive up to 4 displays via DisplayPort. $40 XFX Radeon 6450 ($25 after mail in rebate) $33 Asus Radeon 5450 ($18 after mail in rebate)

AMD cards are not expensive at all if all you need is basic office computing with 3 displays. Even a card like this: http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16814131451 can power 3 displays for desktop use just fine. And you don't need any expensive adapters either, just get a few passive displayport to VGA adapters and you're set. you can find the adapters on ebay for $8 - $10 each.

Thank you. We like your graphic card advice. Need to hear what boss say. Are there graphic cards 256MB or 512MB, PCI (not PCIe), no fan? Please advice your user experiences and shop support track record?

Thank you. Is there ANY single graphic card (either PCI or PCIe x16) drive 3 displays simultaneously? Prefer 512MB, no fan.

Thanks. This card has three output connectors: 1xHDMI, 1xDVI, 1xD-Sub (this is VGA output), can only drive two displays simultaneously, not three displays, correct?
