I get into this all the time with my wife...I'm from the states and say zee she says zed....I really don't understand where zed comes from and it's been an on going thing for some time since I've been here....Which reminds me..... I noticed tons of people here say Been like they are saying bean which annoys me. I guess it all comes down to where you live. But when you listen to the way I learned been it sounds like Bin...Who knows who is correct.

Semi truck I say it the way it looks and have heard....Here everyone says Semi as Semee. I can go on forever but I can say I am picked at all of the time for the way I talk here in Canada.

Do Canadians call the band ZZ Top, Zed, Zed Top ?

we call them zee zee top because that's their name. It's different that way.

@wizdumb - it's "Zed" because that's what it is in actual british english, somehow americans changed it to "Zee" at some point (not sure what the history is there). The other things you mentioned don't matter which way you pronounce them.

Yeah names are different that way, a name could be spelled "XCPQMT" and be pronouced "Bob".

Cuz that makes sense :P
Let's put it this way, if your name is Z and pronounced "zee" and I call you "zed" I'm not being proper, I'm being a dumbass

In England, where strangely enough English originated, we say "zed". End of argument

With regard to the Semi one I get that. I do say it as "Semi", but in French the "I" makes and "ee" sound. So that's why it'd sound like "Semee" in Canada.
