Hello,

Does anybody know if the z97 based motherboards will really support WinXP/XP64 as stated on the website? In the drivers section it says the drivers are compatible but I'm really wondering if it's true?
If it's true, this will surely be THE reason for me getting an EVGA z97 based motherboard.

Let's just say they work much better in XP64. Win7 isn't that good for audio editing/processing for a number of reasons.

Not particularly. Because of the redesign of the Win7 audio management, it can be very problematic when you use a couple of devices that exchange signals and streams.
Another issue is the MIDI playback and synthesis which is extremely underdone in Win7.

I've ran the intel chipset installer from the evga z97 download zone,
when reading the note, it is mentioned that only win server, 7, 8 and 8.1 are supported.
The usb 3 drivers are for Microsoft Windows* 7 (in the readme.txt)
The SB audio drivers: to be checked, slow to download, but seeing the rest ...
If you select the older z87 model in the menu,
the winxp was already removed, so forget it for the z97.

Thanks for checking that for me I appreciate it!
I've also seen this (downloaded the drivers myself and checked) but you can clearly see on the following shots from this website that XP/XP64 is supported by this board. I've also seen other posts on the web that people installed XP on other Z97 boards but not with official drivers, so I guess it's possible and I hoped that EVGA has official drivers for XP as stated.

I'm sure not, because I opened the setups and zip file from the place you indicate.

It would be difficult to set up but people have done it. Although now with Xp support from ms gone you will be open to viruses and the like. Why not look for a version of Linux to do your editing? Or w8?

XP doesn't support the latest DX versions and is now deemed a security risk so I would never use it.

Since I'm not into gaming that much, I don't really care for the latest DX (plus there's always the option of dual boot for games).
And XP64 is based on Server 2003 x64, so I'm still getting security updates for it and with a good firewall viruses are not really a problem.
Unfortunately, there are no drivers available for my external devices (like audio interfaces for example) for LINUX, so this is not an option.
Windows 8 for me is an abomination I'd really like to stay away from.

PS.: I talked with EVGA's support and it turned out the information on the website was wrong. The question is still open though.

I think you'll find that many manufacturers will stop producing drivers for XP. I don't like Windows 8 either and Windows 8.1 is much better.
