So, I had the pleasure of attending Computex this year, in which I covered the G.Skill HWBOT OC WC. But, I wasn't going to fly to Taipei without visiting Vince, who's like a brother to me. There's an official Beta BIOS for the Z790 Dark Kingpin, but you'll need to contact EVGA support directly. Vince is currently testing it, and it was not written by him.

I have no idea. It's the first time I've heard about it, and it came from Vince. I no longer affiliate myself with EVGA.

I agree that it seems that EVGA hasn't done a good job of announcing this, but EVGA did say in at least one thread -- where the people who seem to care most about this subject were being the most actively vocal -- around the middle of April, that an updated Beta BIOS was available by request.  Then, another user hosted it with a link, supposedly blessed by EVGA, to get the file without having to request it from EVGA every time.

I agree, and there's no excuses. We don't even know who wrote it, so keep in mind that's a BETA. Use it at your own discretion.

I tried installing I7 14700k but it wouldn't post on my z790 dark. Is that because of bios update? It was brand new I currently have my old I9 13900kf installed.

You'll need the beta BIOS (Contact customer support or check the download link in the other thread) to get a 14700k to boot. It won't have the latest microcode and some settings may not be correct for it, but with the beta BIOS, it will be detected and boot.
