Hey there mates!
Any idea or a fix for forcing the NiC on Z690 Dark Kingpin [any of them] to stop switching down to 100 mbps?
Thank You!
With kind regards

P.S.: Tried multiple drivers, old ones, newest one [2.0.1.13 or 12 or something], nothing helped :(

zippytek had this discussion with a friend regarding this NIC, diff board but apparently this nic is a nightmare across the board(s)...try updating the nvm and see how that fares. if it still poses problems, folks are switching to standalone nics...not that best solution i know but if it's a critical machine... https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/18190/non-volatile-memory-nvm-update-utility-for-intel-ethernet-network-adapter-700-series.html
Thank You for Your superfast reply mate! I'm gonna try that and report back! It's an interesting choice putting two identical NiC's on one board. Yes, it's great for load balancing and when working for redundancy, but it's bad for redundancy when they both suffer the same issue as is the case :(

my fault, yes you'll want to search for your specific model adapter and the NVM update utility associated with it. issues reported from my friend were not link speed but ping spikes and dropped/reset connections when gaming. i think this series of NIC is just generally a nightmare so i can't promise complete success, but i hope it will help!

I just found some super old FW update for driver version back to 2019, but I'll try it. Not sure if it's a good idea, hope it won't update if there's not newer FW :D I also bi*ed like a sick crow to Intel, just to release some of the stress caused by this NiC :)

Fingers crossed but for me, after reading probably 2 dozen "fixes" was to turn off the allow computer to power off this device for power savings" and manually setting duplex and speed. I have 5 computers in the house with i225v...sadly... and none have dropped, well, 3 now, 2 of them I put in SFP+ 10Gb NIC's. But the i225 is a backup to those and hasn't caused issues .... Yet.

have u "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP"? Control Panel>>All Control Panel Items>>Network and Sharing Center>>Select "Change adapter settings">>Select NIC>>Right Click NIC and Select "Properties">>Highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)">>Click on "Properties" button>>Click on "Advanced" button>>Select "Wins" Tab>>Select "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP" bullet>>Click on OK. You MUST restart PC for it to take effect. GL every time i build a PC, or add a NIC, i have to remember to do it in order to achieve more than 12.5 MB transfer speeds over LAN. Before doing so i'm like- u-know-wat.lol And ranting how USB v1.1 was faster blah blah...lol and fearing everything under the sun's wrong maybe. but after doing it wam! the transfer speeds even on my old Wolfdale E8400 Intel PC over LAN gets well over 40 MBps (320mbps).

cool. np. hope it stays 1Gbps. i guess we have same two NICs. Specs Page for Classified and Dark say, "Ethernet – 2x Intel® 2.5 Gigabit NIC". @uplink_svk, sure why not. have u considered that maybe a cable is going bad? always remember, the eight twisted pairs of little wires inside an Ethernet cable, are more prone to damage than just about any cable. step on one and good luck. Have u swapped cables? Better yes, do u have an inexpensive cable tester? Something like the following: RJ45 Network Cable Tester for Lan see the 2nd vid on ^^. i've heard of ppl trouble shooting for literally months before finding out it was just a cable. after multiple phone calls, onsite "professionals"; in the end someone swapped the cable and problem is solved. i always have identical cables for testing handy. but always buy a batch of multi-shades of color. like one is blue, one light-blue, one red, one light-red, one black, one white, one orange, one purple, one light-purple. They help tremendously for simplifying and quickly testing and eliminating the possibility of a bad cable. Plus there's no excuse for me not to test a cable with them on hand along with a Tester. One time with a Tester i found a bad cable in an establishment's store front in less than two minuets after arrival and swapped it in less than 30 seconds and solved their problem that had gone on for days. it was a peer to peer/ internet related problem, so i knew to test the 1st cable from the wall to the modem. it could have been ok. but it was bad. so i didn't have to go any further.

So, good thinking on Your side mate, really good, but nope, not a cable. I also tried a different one, but no joy :(. My topology goes from MESH unit [Asus ZenWifi XT8 AX] to switch and to two computers, one is my work PC and the other is Gaming. The Gaming one has EVGA and is having issues with NiC, when I had Z690 Apex, Extreme, and some other in there, it worked just fine. The P350 at the other route [from Switch] is working just fine. I also switched Switch, the Unify Switch Flex Mini for GX-U1051 and vice versa, but no luck. I'll be patient with this for now, I'll get the new VGA throughout the week for the P350 Tiny and will get back to it and will wipe out disks on the Gaming PC and will do a clean install and will see what'll it do :) Thank You for Your time and effort mate, much obliged!

@uplink_svk, np. So the problem is both 2.5 Gigabit NICs on the Dark act as if they are only 100 Mbps NICs. suks And searching, "2.5 Gigabit NIC showing up as 100 Mbps"... 1st result confirms everything already covered: Ethernet Link Speed Capped at 100 Mbps Even though ^^ covers almost exactly everything already covered on this thread maybe u can get something from it. np and good, better, and great!!! i thought it was all insane. u had properly checked ur topology stem to stern and left no rocks upturned. that link and ur previous post proved u had all in order problem-solving-wise. as far as that link goes, i 1st documented the problem, and doing so, reminded me: if u have a problem on a Windows PC, thousands have and thousands are, having that same prob too. so i searched for the description. Reminds me of how making a Full Backup Image on the 1st day of the month, followed by Incremental Backups just after starting my PC everyday, always leaves me the opportunity to go back before solving a problem (of course i make a new Incremental Backup immediately after solving a problem with my PC) back before a solution was found and actually implementing it i refer to as: Restoring a Backup Image Made Before A Problem Was Solved For The Sake Of Proving a Second Time That A Fix Was The Fix That Fixed It. ^^ results in a sort of Time-Machine. But in ur scenario, uplink_svk, it would be referred to as: Restoring a Backup Image Made Before A Problem Was Solved And The Solution Wasn't Known. ^^ wat a challenge it would be, aye?! my guess is, it probably had something to do with restarting, in order for something u did, to be implemented change-wise. just another unwritten step. GL Hey there buddy! Sorry for late reply, but I wanted to test the NiC properly. So a week went by and now I'm running on latest driver, and it seems to be working just fine. Fun fact, also the settings You posted worked, the NetBIOS settings and stuff around, maybe even the power settings, I really have no idea, because since I uninstalled the driver and am using the newest from Mr. Lee here from EVGA, it's been running just fine. The driver version is 2.1.1.7 and it's from 02.02.2022. Thank You once more for Your time and patience!

@uplink_svk, cool. np. When i fist remembered to "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP"... and it raised speed up from 100Mbps to my switch's speed (1000Mbps) i was amazed. And at the time i needed the speed to copy a few 25GB files. What a difference! Well, ten times faster is ten times faster.lol

Any idea what fix got it going for you? After reading this I just noticed I've got the same issue. My router is 2500/2500 and just realized it drops to 100/100 after a while. Not a big deal if it was just 1000/1000 but 100/100 doesn't cut it.
My associates code is O1RWT3TOQ5NNXP8 if you wanna help !e get my EVGA score up :)

i believe uplink_svk in post #17, was referring to how a week has gone by and it seemed fixed by trying the following: A. Using the latest driver. B. " Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP" C. Plus he made reference to how a power setting may have helped too. Start by sticking with ur current driver and trying the following (from post #7): "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP"How To... Control Panel>> All Control Panel Items>> Network and Sharing Center>> Select "Change adapter settings">> Select NIC>> Right Click NIC and Select "Properties">> Highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)">> Click on "Properties" button>> Click on "Advanced" button>> Select "Wins" Tab>> Select "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP" bullet>> Click on OK. You MUST restart PC for it to take effect. The other things uplink_svk checked was his Topology. Because if a single cable is bad, a port on a switch or modem, etc. then that could explain the problem. On Post #14 there's a link that has a plethora of info to help with Topology Ethernet Link Speed Capped at 100 Mbps. But start by ignoring all the driver settings mentioned; and just try running with " all default driver settings" + " Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP". GL

I'll give that a shot. After switching to a 1000/1000 port it didn't switch back to 100/100 last night. I'm going to get grab a cat6 cable today, too. There's no telling what's connected now although it's just a few feet long so it shouldn't matter.

@tresnugget, and remember that when it comes to network stuff it's infamously undocumented as to how a restart is necessary. mostly software driver-wise, but even hardware changes should be suspect as to needing a restart to take effect.
