Jacob announced the X99 Micro 2 with USB 3.1, more sata ports, and "new looks". It seems to me that they also added a storage m.2 slot (could be mistaken though) Pinned for release in July. Looks exciting! :D http://hexus.net/tv/show/2015/06/New_X99_and_early_Intel_Skylake_motherboards_from_EVGA I hope this also means there is an X99 Classified update to fix all the issues with that. If there is, I'm going to HAVE to upgrade from my ASRock. Fingers crossed!

Yeah, me too. I've been looking at the video closer, all black caps, they moved that huge battery somewhere else out of the way, added an M.2 for SSDs, more sata ports, USB 3.1, all awesome. This is TRULY the feature rich mother board that belongs in the EVGA lineup of premium boards. SUPER glad to see it finally come around, looks amazing!

More pics here: http://benchlife.info/evga-x99-micro-update-will-equip-usb-type-c-and-m-2-06022015/Let's play spot the difference! Relocated CMOS battery allows longer M.2 Blacked out capacitors, very nice Looks like they removed the voltage checkpoint breakout header but I didn't find it that useful anyway More Sata Right-angle USB 3.0 header!!! Bottom of the RAM slots don't have tabs, so RAM can be installed/removed without taking the video card out CPU socket is still way too close to the top slot so limited air cooling options, that's a bummer Super excited for this since the Asus may only have 2.0 x4 on that bottom slot and this fixes almost all my gripes with the original X99 Micro.

I like that they even included a black nickel socket.. It is far better looking than previous x99 lineup. Let me know how it performs. I think evga made the correct move with the refresh here.

Wow, now I hate myself for upgrading months ago... Cant justify buying a new mobo just because EVGA decided to put in the features this board should have had in the first place.. Wonder if there is like a trade in program? lol doubtful though.

ASUS still not have motherboards with build in USB 3.1 controller. I don't know even what happen with graphic card in first slot if Install USB 3.1 Port card because I have CPU with only 28 PCI-E lanes. I don't want to graphic card work on x8 speed because that little and expensive card as devil. In my country price difference between R5E and R5E 3.1 is exactly 100e... and still no single device USB 3.1 and they will cost fortune. R5E USB 3.1 cost exactly 554e cheapest price and price go up to 600e on same place... For that money you can buy this... I love this type of heatsink most of all. Nobody make any more such stuff for desktop motherboards. Everything some weird stuff.

I didn't though on performance, but how Z10PE-D8 have nice heatsinks on VRM and on chipset too. They could look even better in color of mounting mechanism on Micro 2.

Why does no one make an X99 micro board with 4 PCI-e slots? My server needs more than 4 cores and I really wish I could properly utilize all the lanes X99 provides. M.2 = don't give a eff.

That's easy to answer. It wouldn't be a micro board now would it if they added 4 PCI-E slots.

Z87/97 boards will have 3 full size -e slots and 1 x1 slot for 4 slots total (it has to be x1 because non -E parts run out of lanes anyways)...seems all X99 matx boards (from all brands) assume you're going to use a dual slot GPU and put the M.2 socket there.

My guess is because the socket is huge and takes up so much real estate on the board that it makes routing the traces more complicated.

Not much room if you want to have M.2 on there. Vertical M.2 may be possible + 4 slots.

I like that idea. 4 full length slots and if you insist on throwing M.2 on there making it something that uses a round extension cable to plug in. Mounting directly to the mobo doesn't really make sense for a desktop. Make it and you've got at least 1 sale :) I need 6+ cores and with the graphics card, raid card, and network card that currently maxes out my Z87 Gryphon.

Finally a nice clear shot of the board: https://twitter.com/EVGA_...tus/610564573603573761 The little transistors next to the PCIe slots seem to indicate the board is capable of a x16 / x16 / x8 configuration like the Micro1, now the question is the M.2 lanes. I also noticed in this pic the little retaining clips on the PCIe slot are missing. Hope it stays that way because it's a pain removing the bottom card in a dual-GPU setup without taking the top one out first.

I like how they went back to the black nickel cpu retention mechanism, and a single latch RAM. hmm might sell my x99 classy for the updated version... also is that a led strip separating the board and sound?
