So, is the updated updated microcode coming anytime soon? It's April already, and months have passed since the flawed code was pulled.

I expect to receive it this week or next week, at the latest.

This is good news. I'll be looking forward to seeing this post updated with the new links sometime soon, then. :)

Thanks to arestavo for asking, also!

This is good news indeed, and i can't wait to get this Bios update installed.

Would it be possible to request a tiny (cosmetic) change for the X99 Classified Bios?
I just always thought it was weird how it says "Azalia" instead of "Core-3D" under
"Onboard Device Configuration" on the X99 Classified.

It would be a nice touch for the Classified to finally have the right name for it's Onboard Audio in the Bios.

Whoah - looks like I posted a bit early! I checked the downloads for my X99 FTW K and found that BIOS v2.05 is available for download. Nice!

You got slightly higher within the MoE.

My firestrike link was messed up, fixed it. It's the Physics score that you should really look at since the Nvidia drivers were updated in-between tests.

An 8.6% loss in performance in FS and just over 2% in Time Spy if I'm looking at that correctly.

EDIT:  I'm referring to the CPU/Physics tests.

Re: X99 BIOS Update with Spectre updates 2018/04/18 02:04:51 (permalink)
Finally did a much needed BIOS overhaul since 2 out of 3 BIOS's I have, never had a single update done on them before.

Got BIOS #1 with the newest BIOS update (v2.03 to v2.06) while #2 and #3 got the previous version (v2.04) just in case I revert back.  I originally thought about going back one more for the #3 (v2.03?) so I have the last 3 BIOS versions to pick from if something should go wrong since I OC on my CPU but decided to keep it as is for now.

Nonetheless, all went well on this end.

For those of you that have flashed BIOS Rev 2.06, have you tried running the tool InSpectre to verify you now have Spectre protection??  > https://www.grc.com/inspectre.htm

I flashed BIOS 2.06 and ran the tool and it still shows I don't have the Spectre protection.  Maybe that's why EVGA didn't post a sticky about a Spectre BIOS update?

Here are my BIOS rev 2.04 vs 2.06 Disk comparisons...  Stock clocks.  No difference in settings, only the BIOS rev was changed.

Rev 2.04

Rev 2.06

I'm not seeing any Spectre protection in this latest BIOS rev, but I do see some performance improvements...

v2.05 for the X99 FTW K definitely has the Spectre/Meltdown fixes in it. I tried out the InSpectre app and it shows the following text:

Spectre & Meltdown Vulnerability Status

System is Meltdown protected: YES
System is Spectre protected: YES
Microcode Update Available: YES
Performance: GOOD
CPUID: 406F1

Interesting.  Version 2.06 for the Classified shows in the release notes it has the microcode for Spectre.  But when I run the InSpectre tool, it shows I don't have Spectre protection.

I'n not really worried about it, so will wait to see if anyone else with a Classy board chimes in with their result...

Thanks for letting me know...

I figured out why I wasn't showing as being protected.  I remembered when I had BIOS rev 2.05, the first Spectre BIOS EVGA put out, I had disabled the Spectre protection using the InSpectre tool.  Then I flashed BIOS 2.06 over 2.05, but never re-enabled Spectre protection prior to the new BIOS flash, leaving the enable/disable button greyed out in the tool.  So I tracked down the registry value that had been added and changed by the InSpectre tool and set it back, rebooted, and now I show I have the protection enabled again...

And now the Inspectre tool is back to being able to enable/disable both the Meltdown & Spectre protections...

Thanks for the heads up.   Just wished it was a simple enable and disable button instead of going through all that trouble.

I thought about disabling it for testing but I'll just leave it alone.  Everything is running smoothly so far.  (fingers crossed lol)

Normally it is, it just requires a reboot. Also make sure you're using the latest version of the tool. It has been updated several times.

Regarding the 'BIOS' update method:

Is it still recommended to revert to default settings before the flash. And if so, is there a way to save settings if I'm not in the mood to manually reset everything? Sorry, I haven't flashed in awhile.

I noticed that having all c-states enabled manually causes my motherboard to hang before I can even get into Windows with this update.

Works fine with c-states on Auto.

Yes, to reverting to default settings and I don't know of any way to save your old settings/profiles so they can be used on the new BIOS you just flashed.  If you flash on a different BIOS chip, then your old settings will still be there with the previous BIOS you were running.

You could use a USB flash drive to save pics of your settings in case you need to refer to them to set up your profiles in the new BIOS.  Just plug the USB drive in and press F12 to snap a pic to the drive while in the BIOS.  Whatever you're seeing when you hit F12 is what you'll see in the pic.
